Sir:
Let me correct you and set the record staright. The massacre was started by the Bengali soldiers, and not by the West Pakistani soldiers, by killing there West Pakistani officers. Not only they killed them but also their familes including children. Most women were also raped. The Pakistani Govt did not disclose this in a fear of reprisal in West Pakistan, otherwise all East Pakistani's would have been butchered in West Pakistan. The action of the army was in revenge and revenge is always rough. It's very regretable that so many people were killed from both sides.
I personally know bengalis, who were appointed in governments ranks in 71 and were loyal to bangladesh's cause by 100% and still helped West Pakistan civilian officers escaping in the month of March, after Pakistani Army sarted massacring and as a consequence Bengalis started revolting. I know someone who was killed by Pakistan Army, helped a West Pakistani district commissioner flee from muktibahini at the beginning of the war.
