Bangladesh yet to give transit facility to any country, Finance Minister Muhith says

Bangladesh has not yet given any country the permission to carry goods through the country under transit facility, Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said.

"Goods from India are being carried under trans-shipment facility of the existing Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade (PIWTT) between Bangladesh and India," Muhith said in reply to a query in Parliament on Sunday.

India already carried its goods through Bangladesh, which has been seen and protested by many as transit.

Bangladesh also received duty for letting India use its infrastructure.

The facility significantly reduces the distance between the East and North East of India as currently, goods travel through the Siliguri corridor into Assam and further into other northeastern states.

The protocol facilitates trade and development not only between India and Bangladesh but in the entire sub-region promoting trade and development.

But transit for India is always a much-discussed issue in Bangladesh as it has most of its land borders with India.

The BNP is against granting India the facility to carry goods through Bangladesh. It claims the service will threaten the sovereignty of the country.

Unless we can access Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and beyond, there is absolutely no justification in giving CORRIDORS to Bharat.

PURE awami league drama and sheer lie to mask it anti Bangladesh activity and complete submission to india. Awami league signed strings of agreement (submission) to india and combined effect of these agreements are worse than transit and corridor.

I wonder what makes you so much anti-BD. You look more a pro-Indian rather than a pro-BD. Do you really want us to believe AL has signed a submission treaty with India when the news says BD bought two submarines from China and its armed forces did not even buy one bolt/nut from your India. Why are you pushing BD to India?

Those ports anyways are useless without INDIAN consumption. If we don't utilise it Bangladesh will have to foot looses. Rather we use it and even if we put below market rates via Hasina Darling, something is better than nothing idiot?

It is their country and their rules. It is true we twist their arms to get our way. They are resentful and rightfully so. You being rude does not help.

Don't post uninformed comments......Bangladeshi ports (even internal riverine ones) were NOT built for Indian transshipment traffic.
