Just released official statistics show, Bangladesh’s yearly fish output increased to 4.4 million tons now from 1.8 million tons in 2000.

Whatever witness things our great newspapers say, BD is short of all kinds of foods. That is why people there are of ill health. Importers of frozen fish in Japan import fish items from Burma and Thailand, and not from BD because BD products are too expensive.

Why expensive? it is because production is inefficient and the cost is higher. Hilsha is almost banned from exporting by the GoB. So, importers get it from the two countries with abundant quantity for internal consumption as well as exports.

Even Bd is short of staple food like rice although our BAL brats here from time to time glorify BD land as the most fertile without knowing our lands lack many vital organics. BD population is high and production is so low that it is not enough to provide nutrition to the people.

High density fish farming in ponds ======================

One after another initiatives of fish farmers, farms and entrepreneurs in the country, practice of modern technology, activities of scientists is expanding Bangladesh fish production.

Now Bangladesh is one of the top fish producer countries in the world - fourth highest position globally.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Bangladesh is a role model in fish production in the world. Numerous small and large commercial enterprises are working behind this huge industry. Invisible competition is employed in the use of technology. Integrated use of new technologies is going on. Behind everything, the cultivation of more fish in less water has become the biggest trend. At the same time creating a habitat for fish; Where fish will enjoy wandering in their habitat. Where pond fish will taste like river fish.

Here is a presentation of one such farm where high density fish farming is employed, without any hormones, and mostly using Japanese/Chinese techniques of wave aerators and solar-power enabled surge machines to provide higher level oxygenation of water.

As of 2018, Total aquaculture (pisciculture) production in Bangladesh was 2,405,416 tonnes. Bangladesh holds fourth place among Inland fishery production, but is nowhere on marine aquaculture. Most of Bangladesh' marine fish is stolen by neighbor countries who illegally fish in Bangladesh waters. Reason is scant EEZ enforcement and not enough patrols to catch fish poachers.
