Bangladesh vs Pakistan: What is Hasina’s Real Problem?

Pakistan and Bangladesh relations have dipped to another low point in the last several months, with an increasingly hostile attitude shown by the Hasina Sheikh’s government. After ignoring a number of slights by the Bangladeshi government towards Pakistan’s initiatives, on Thursday, Pakistan finally decided not to participate in the 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly which was due to begin April 1, 2017 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Ayaz Sadiq Pulls out of Parliamentary moot in Dhaka

The 10-member parliamentary delegation was to participate in the international parliamentary moot under the leadership of National Assembly Speaker, Ayaz Sadiq.

In a statement, Pakistan’s Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said, “The members of the National Assembly and I have noted with dismay and disappointment the continuing actions and negative public statements of the leadership, public officials and media of Bangladesh despite Pakistan’s restraint and overtures to the country. I have, therefore, decided not to travel to Bangladesh; as a visit at this point will not serve the purpose.”

Video Game features a character, Aneela, a good looking female guerilla fighter who frees herself from Pakistani captivity, and goes around like any good Indian movie destroying the ‘enemies’ supply lines, saving women from prison camps, and takes down Pakistani soldiers one by one.

He pointed out how Pakistan had gone out of its way again and again on different occasions to ensure better relations with Bangladesh. It was a particularly bitter pill for the speaker to swallow, since it was Pakistan’s parliamentary delegation that had unanimously voted in favor of the current Speaker of Bangladesh, Dr Sharmeen Chaudhary, for the post of the chairperson of the executive committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in Cameroon in 2014. Pakistani support had helped her win to it. Dr. Chaudhary won this election with an extremely narrow margin of four votes, 82 votes in favor and 78 against. It was not possible without Pakistani support.

Ayyaz Sadiq’s statement went on to say “However, it is noted with much regret that the friendly gestures were never reciprocated in the same coin. The speaker of Bangladesh did not visit Pakistan despite repeated invitations. The parliament of Bangladesh also boycotted all international parliamentary moots, organized by the parliament of Pakistan during the last two years despite personal requests by the highest parliamentary leadership to the speaker of Bangladesh. This includes the SAARC Young Parliamentarians Conference in August 2016, the International Women Parliamentarians Conference 2017 and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly in 2017.”

Bangladesh since Sheikh Hasina won elections in 2008

Since the 2008 election victory, Sheikh Hasina Wajid has acted to keep her party in power by taking a strident tone against Pakistan. This year her government passed a motion declaring that March 25th each year would be commemorated as ‘Genocide day.’

My Bengali friends never liked Hasina. They favored Khaleda Zia over her. Though there was some anti pakistan sentiment among some bengalis. Their fish and rice/dal was amazing though. Hope Bengladesh gets rid of this tyrannical government intent on destroying Pakistan Bagladesh relations.

In 2004 Pakistani backed HUJI attacked Hasina with grenade. Top suspect Tajul Islam was sent to Pakistan by the then BNP government. Besides in 1975 Bhutto arranged aircraft to carry her father's killer to Libya.

.
What is Hasina's real problem? Well she is too Haseen for our standards and this is the problem.
On a more serious note Pakistan should reciprocate BD in the same language that they deserve. For starters we need to use our clout in China and Middle East to make sure BD government start getting a snub. Moreover we should start giving our support to Myanmar and be vocal about it. We should also start hailing the heroes of 71 who lost their lives for Pakistan. This whore of India needs to be taught a lesson and there wont be a lesson if we remain passive all the time.
Its good that Sadiq chose to not go at all. I hope the dumb PM does not intervene as he did with Afghanistan in the name of Muslim brotherhood and culture crap.

So Bengali foreign policy is solely based around a personal vendetta, than actual geopolitical strategy?

Sheikh Hasina & Awami League or Khaleda Zia & BNP, it doesn't really matter. As I've said before, the BNP (not just Hasina/Awami League) spouts the same "genocide" and "atrocities" nonsense. They are two sides of the same coin:

"Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday said Pakistan in no way can hide the fact of ‘genocide’ and ‘atrocities’ committed by its army during Bangladesh’s war of independence in 1971.

The party came up with the statement following Pakistan’s foreign ministry’s claim that Pakistan did not commit war crimes during Bangladesh’s war of independence.

‘Pakistani army committed genocide and atrocities in Bangladesh in 1971. They cannot conceal the truth’ BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon said at a news briefing.

He made the remarks when asked about Pakistan foreign ministry’s recent statement about denial of committing war crimes during Bangladesh’s Liberation War."

Hasina is not the problem. Bangladeshis are the problem.

Try to kill american minister and you will know

There are appropriate channels for that kind of thing, using your country foreign policy as a means of 'getting even' with an old regime is a bad idea.

If there was an attempted assassination on Obama by a group that supposedly has links to Pakistan, they would immediately show evidence to the UN and request action against us. Not all of this childish drama, like snubbing us or creating a "genocide" video game.

Considering the fact that we supported Bangladesh diplomatically, and showed restraint all of these silly statements, Bangladesh's stance is just plain ridiculous.

i don't know what they want.after every terrorist incident, bangladesh supports india and calls pakistan terrorist state.i think hasina sold bangladesh to india.that was 1971.it's 2017 now.their hate speeches are not ending.what is the problem with the mentally ill hasina!

Hasina is not the problem. Bangladeshis are the problem.

Good points. There's this false impression that AL is pro-India/anti-Pakistan and BNP is anti-India/pro-Pakistan, when in reality it's more complicated than that. AL has engaged in anti-India behavior in the past, and BNP has made deals with India when it's been power. It's all about politics.

It's just in Bangladesh's interests to have good relations with India than Pakistan. It would be nice for Bangladesh and Pakistan to have good relations too, but I doubt either side cares at this point.

As for Hasina, well she's wants to be a tyrant and will tolerate no opposition. This whole anti-Pakistan/1971 revenge thing she has going is for one thing and one thing only: power. It will interesting to see what happens in Bangladesh once she's gone. I heard may be her idiot son will try to muscle in. You know how dynastic politics go.

Indeed. The differences between the BNP and the Awami League have far more to with their domestic politics, than with India/Pakistan issues. Some Pakistanis seem to get excited when Bangladeshis say or do something against India, falsely taking it as evidence of support for Pakistan. That is not the case.

Correct. Due to geography, it will always be in Bangladesh's interest to maintain good relations with India (whether it likes it or not). Pakistan, as a country almost a thousand miles away from Bangladesh with a separate culture, has little to gain from Bangladesh.

As for Hasina, well she's wants to be a tyrant and will tolerate no opposition. This whole anti-Pakistan/1971 revenge thing she has going is for one thing and one thing only: power. Yes, it's clear that her government is becoming tyrannical. But many people in Bangladesh do support her. And yes, dynastic politics are a serious problem in all countries, especially in South Asian ones. It will indeed be interesting to see what happens when she leaves. Either way, Pakistan will not gain or suffer from it. Bangladesh is inconsequential to it.
