Bangladesh: US’ Moderna, China’s Sinopharm vaccines arrive

- Yes, I am stupid because I could not pass through the Primary. Yet, I know what is this Theory of Probability and you do not. However, you claim to be another Newton. It is Hilarious!

- Who asked you about your education? Did I? I read through the posts and understand what you are. Physics is all about Charle's Law, Boyle's law or classical mechanics, thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and quantum mechanics.

- Did I ask these things from an idiot like you? Oh!! I forgot to mention semi-conductor. Which chapter of Physics do you know that I do not know?

- I was talking about the Theory of Probability and not your stupid Physics knowledge, idiot!! Do you really understand the difference?

- Did not I say before that you never lived in London? It is because you just do not have any idea what London train speeds are. Was I wrong? Why do you come with a fake identity?

And yes, my English is weak enough not to understand your stupid thinking. What a comment!! It surprised me. It is a discussion forum and you are talking about English as if it proves you are a real Londonwala. You must be the most shameless girly-character man on this Earth!!

I hope you will certainly understand my English this time. Bloody one-track- minded idiot!!

Well you need to understand the concepts of difference between probability and experimentation otherwise this 20% matter would go right over your head.

And no it doesn’t mean they will CERTAINLY be affected. It’s just telling you hey we used this vaccine on several people several time and we took the average and it works 80% of the time.

Bottom line : moderna’s or Chinese vaccine better than no vaccine
Bold part: This is the point. There is no fear that the remaining 20% will certainly be infected and will die of the infection.

So, there is a probability that 20% MAY get infected.

Nah dude you’re confusing shit again. I know it looks similar but probability is the notion of an event occurring . So let me give your what probability mean in the context of this vaccine

Events
1- vaccine works
2- vaccine doesn’t work
3- vaccine works but you’re asymptomatic

These are the events that could happen. So the probability of vaccine working is 1/3 or 33%

Also just like there is no certainty of 20% . There is also no certainty that vaccine will work 80% of the time all the time just because there are so many variable to consider

That 80% just shows you the AVERAGE just like in ur cricket a batsman has an average DOES NOT mean he will score his average all the time means it could go up or down. But that isn’t called probability

If true more than likely due to requirements of host country.

While this seems like a waste of very good vaccines, that should at this stage be used on the old and sick, it makes economic sense as BD is so reliant on remittances.

Anyway looks like the Chinese are able to supply million of doses on emergency basis and even if their vaccine offers around “only” 80% protection against death like in Chile, that is certainly better than nothing.

Bangladesh is giving 25000 taka to each workers going abroad mainly to compensate the 14 day quarantine at a hotel.

If by giving Moderna vaccine quarantine hotel stay and 25000 taka can be saved why not give them the vaccine!

I read somewhere Pfizer and Moderna shots are being prioritised for Bangladesh workers waiting to go overseas. Not sure I understand the decision..

ukbengali in every Chinese vaccine related thread, first he said 50%, now it's 80.:agree:

Ok, let me take some time to explain how Chile came up with the 80% reduction in deaths with the Chinese vaccine - their data is obviously the best as they have vaccinated the most proportion of their population with the Chinese vaccine and way more than 99% of those likely to die have been doubled-dosed with mainly the Chinese vaccine weeks and weeks ago.

Say we have three 1 million sample groups. We can call then Group A, B and C. They all have the same random mix of the population in terms of age profile, health, socio-economic situation etc.

Group A - Unvaccinated and 1000 people die from the virus
Group B - Vaccinated with Chinese vaccine and 200 people die.
Group C - Vaccinated with USA vaccine and 10 people die.

As 80% less people in Group B have died compared to Group A then the vaccine reduces the chances of death by 80%.

As 99% less people in Group C have died compared to Group A then the vaccine reduces the chances of death by 99%.

That is what is meant by reducing the chance of death by 80% from the Chinese vaccine, at least with respect to Chile.

Now if we look at what is still happening in Chile, we can be certain that the Chinese vaccine does not reduce death by near 100% as the Western vaccines do:

Now can those who claim that the Chinese vaccine reduces deaths by near 100% explain what is happening in Chile still?
Remember Chile has just less than 20 million people as well.

It is just an emotional reaction from people in countries that are solely or mainly relying on the Chinese vaccine. Of course they wish and want the Chinese vaccine to be almost bullet proof. The data from Chile and other countries simply does not support this hope.

As for BD, I would personally use Moderna/AstraZeneca on those most at risk as they give near 100% protection from death and Chinese vaccine on the ones that are at less risk. This is the best way I think for BD to proceed with the vaccines it has or should have on hand very soon.

Let me put it in simple terms:
According to the Chilean study, inoculation by Sinopham REDUCES deaths by 80%.
In other words, if 100 people would have otherwise died due to Covid and not being vaccinated, 80 of them survived due to all 100 of them being vaccinated by Sinopham.
Sinopham did not kill the other 20, it just failed to save them.

The German recommendations below concern Bangladesh also. This is why I have posted this news for people to evaluate the mixing of vaccines. - @bluesky -

Germany recommends vaccine mix for better protection

Studies show that the immune response is ‘clearly superior’ when an AstraZeneca shot is combined with a second mRNA vaccine.

Germany's vaccine committee on Thursday recommended that everyone who received an AstraZeneca first dose switch to BioNTech-Pfizer or Moderna jabs for better protection against the Covid-19, including against the Delta variant.
Studies show that the immune response is "clearly superior" when an AstraZeneca shot is combined with a second mRNA vaccine, compared with double AstraZeneca jabs, said STIKO.

The commission therefore recommended the mix "regardless of age" and with a minimum gap of four weeks between the two jabs.

The vaccines developed by BioNTech-Pfizer and Moderna are based on the same novel messenger RNA technology, which trains the body to reproduce spike proteins, similar to that found on the novel coronavirus.

When exposed to the real virus later, the body recognizes the spike proteins and can fight them off.

Viral vector vaccines like AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson use genetically-engineered versions of a common-cold causing adenovirus as a "vector" to shuttle genetic instructions into human cells.

Chancellor Angela Merkel had received a Moderna second jab after getting an AstraZeneca injection for her first.

Pointing to studies in Britain, STIKO said protection against the Delta variant is "significantly reduced" after only one shot.

"In this context, STIKO points out that it is important to get the second vaccine dose," it said.

Travel bans rethink
Germany expects the Delta variant to take over as the dominant strain of the coronavirus in the country in the coming days.

"I expect that in the course of July we will see Delta accounting for over 70 to 80% of infections in our country," Health Minister Jens Spahn told reporters.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) health agency reported on Wednesday that the Delta variant, first identified in India, already accounted for 37% of infections in Germany the week to June 20.

The variant is expected to account for at least half of all new infections by this week, the experts said.

If the Delta variant becomes dominant in Germany, so-called coronavirus variant countries such as Britain and Portugal -- from which most travel is currently banned -- could be reclassified, Spahn said.

Given the increasing spread of Delta and research showing that full vaccination protects well against it, "we will look at the situation in the next few days", Spahn said.

"If both of these things are confirmed, we will then be able to treat Portugal and the United Kingdom as high-incidence areas”, rather than variant countries, he said.

Only citizens and residents of Germany are permitted to enter from a variant country and are subject to a two-week quarantine, regardless of whether they are fully vaccinated or can provide a negative Covid-19 test.

By contrast, anyone can enter from a high-incidence country and can end their quarantine after five days with a negative test. The current variant countries list includes Britain, Portugal, India and Russia.

Despite the rising share of the Delta variant, the overall incidence in Germany has been steadily declining in recent weeks.

The RKI on Thursday reported 892 new cases in the past 24 hours and an incidence rate of 5.1 new infections per 100,000 people over the last seven days.
But across Europe, the number of new cases rose again last week after 10 weeks of decline, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Speaking in the European Parliament, European Central Bank chief Christine Lagarde also warned of the threat posed by virus variants to the economy.
"The nascent recovery still faces uncertainty, also due to the spread of virus mutations," she said.
