Bangladesh trashes Indian media reports on plot to assassinate Hasina
Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina's office says news of assassination attempt untrue

The government-run news agency BSS ran a story prepared by India-based CNN-News18 that reported that Bangladesh security agencies upset the plot assumed to have hatched by a Pakistani intelligence agency in consultation with BNP chief Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman.
The prime minister's office issued a statement condemning the allegations carried in some news outlets as "completely baseless, misleading and motivated".
The release is signed by Ashraful Alam Khokan, deputy press secretary to the prime minister. The original report was written by Indian journalist Subir Bhaumik.
"We don't have any evidence of this plot", he told reporters after emerging from a meeting of the cabinet committee on law and order at the home ministry in Dhaka.
However, earlier on the day Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader said at an event that jealous of the praise she had received over the Rohingya issue worldwide, "local and global interests were conspiring to kill the prime minister".
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has hit out at Pakistan, saying its Army launched a "heinous" military operation in 1971 which triggered a "genocide" during the liberation war, killing three million innocent people. He is now a consultant editor with Mizzima.
It said a number of TV channels also aired the news and held talk shows on the so-called failed attack on the premier by involving some members of a special force.

The prime minister's office (PMO) dismissed media reports of an abortive attempt on the life of premier Sheikh Hasina.
In a statement on Sunday, the PMO described as baseless, confusing and motivated the news item that an attempt on the life of Sheikh Hasina was foiled on 24 August.
Deputy press secretary to the prime minister, Ashraful Alam, criticised a section of the media including a few local television channels, for publishing such a baseless report, referring to a foreign television channel and an internatonal online network. State-run BSS, too, used the item.
"It is not expected that any responsible person or media organisation would publish such a baseless report that hampers the country's overall security interests," read the statement.
