Bangladesh to import onion from Pakistan after 15yrs

What is so exciting about BD buying Onions from Pakistan, and too just 12 containers which is nothing more than peanut.

We are a natural choice for them as our prices are competitive after India ban onion exports.

.
I am afraid. What will be the result of interaction between "Razakari onion" and "Chetona onion". India and Pakistan er piaj eksathe khaya dekhbo pet kharap hoy kina. :D

Sure we will sell you onions.. but first ....
Bangladesh has to apologize..:cheesy:

That fruit has various names, Rose Apple, Wax jambu, java apple and now hearing water apple.

Bengali name is Jamrul.

Mango is the last thing BD needs to import. And while I have eaten Pakistani mangoes in Makkah and they were good, mangoes in BD are as good if not far better. We are not well known outside for mangoes probably because we don't export it.

Are there many pan chewers in Pakistan?
Karachi side.

If Pakistan only increase Her per acer yield to 12+ Tons that will double (32+Million) the total production ….. And If we take over yield to 15+ tons per acer we can take over production to 40+ million tons ………………………….. Pakistan can provide BD , Afghnistan and even india if we only increase our per ton yield ..

No. Every side. Paan is quite popular in Lahore as well. It's just that the red stuff and other unhygienic ingredients are more popular in Karachi. If we are not going to get rid of the paan we should at least get rid of the red stuff.

India produces way more onions then we do. Probably amongst the top three onion producing countries. Though sometimes their demand exceeds the supply because of large population as is the case right now. We did export onions to India once in large quantities, which later resulted in shortage of onions in Pakistan. Later the onions were bought back from India on a higher price.

Afghanistan also produces its own onions. Though not as much as Pakistan but in good enough quantity to import. I think India just imported from them and they were supplied via Pakistani route. Essentially we are dropping axe on our own foot by allowing this trade. Not only are we losing India as an onion market but the Afghan and Iranian onions find their way into Pakistan as well. Every year the marketeers in Pakistan seem to import onions from Afghanistan and Iran to bring down the price of local onions. This decrease in price does not effect the market price on which the consumers buy onions but the price on which the marketeers buy onions from local producers.

Onions are produced in slightly semi-arid areas with temperature averaging around 35 degrees. Too much water will kill it and so would too little water. Too little heat will not let it mature properly and too much heat will kill it. For this reason onions are mainly cultivated in Sindh followed by Balochistan. We don't have enough water in both provinces to increase production. Plus, the cost of production is too high with urea and DAP prices rising on regular basis. Each of them costing between Rupees 1600 to 2700 respectively, which is atrocious. Since they are being produced in slightly semi-arid and hot areas farmers have to resort to tube wells when water supply is scarce. The cost of electricity is even more atrocious, especially since the supply of electricity in rural areas is very minimum. There is no government support for onion production in Pakistan whatsoever or for other agricultural productions.

I'm pretty sure this is higher than Chicken per KG.
Chicken price roaming around 140-150 Taka per KG.

We need to find other onion suppliers asap. As we can never produce enough onions to meet our demand...

We need to stop our dependency on India as soon as possible . Otherwise we will be screwed up soon . It's not only about onion , but other goods as well. It's the right time to choose alternative options for us .

Today onion prize is 180TK/KG(332PKR) in our local market

Agree .Here is analysis of news of the daily inqilab . It says that when the 300 ton onion will reach in CTG , the price will be 55-57 taka kg , only 5 tk kg more than Pakistan market. So it's clear that importing via sea route is not such costly . So The govt must have to choose the alternative way . We should import almost everything via sea , I believe from any nation we can buy anything without very much high cost . If we can act wisely and import via sea route , this time is not far when we will show middle finger to India .

Do you really think 300 ton onion can feed 160 million even for one hour? BD needs 300,000 tons if people find the quality of Pakistani onion good. So, better stock this quantity from your harvest of 1,600,000 tons.
