Bangladesh to get high speed train from China CNR Corp.

We may know why this work has not progressed.

Dohazari-Cox's Bazar rail line
Work yet to start

Arun Bikash DeyThe railway has started its process to acquire 1,412 acres of land to build 128km rail track from Dohazari in Chittagong to Teknaf in Cox's Bazar for Dohazari-Cox's Bazar rail line.

Sources in Bangladesh Railway (BR) said at present, there is railway link up to Dohazari.

But the peoples expressed their frustration over the slow pace of progress in the work. They formed human chain and submitted memorandum to the prime minister demanding initiatives to start the project.

Non-government organisations Sohai Foundation, Nongar, Pulse Bangladesh, Expawrul, Shabdayan Abrtti Academy and Coast Trust formed a human chain in front of the municipality office in Cox's Bazar town on May 29.

Speakers at the programme demanded of the government to take immediate steps for implementing the project.

The Railway (East zone) General Manager Yusuf Ali Mridha said they have land up to Dohazari in Chittagong, but the railway has no land from Dahazari to Cox's Bazar. He said the railway will have to acquire 1,412 acres of land from Dohazari to Cox's Bazar.

The land acquisition process has already started, he said, adding that they need over Tk 1,400 crore for land acquisition but they have only Tk 10 crore for the project.

Of the money, Tk 9.75 crore has been allocated to the deputy commissioners (DC) of Chittagong as the first installment, said Project Director Engineer Khairul Anam, hoping to complete the project by 2013. But he refused to answer any question about the slow process of land accusation.

Mozammel Haque, planning officer of BR (east zone), said the project would be completed on schedule though it is still at primary stage.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated construction work of the rail line at Jhilongjha on April 3 to connect Cox's Bazar with other areas of the country.

The Tk 1,852 crore project will be completed by December 31 in 2013. Of the fund, the government will provide Tk 670 crore while Tk 1,182 crore will come as project aid, said sources at the Bangladesh Railway.

Under the project, there will be two meter gauge lines -- one 100km line will connect Dohazari with Cox's Bazar via Ramu and the other 28km line will connect Ramu with Gundum in Myanmar, said Khairul.

The rail line will include four bridges on the rivers of Sangu, Matamuhuri, Shankha and Bankkhali.

The stations on the railway line will be at Satkania, Dulahazra, Chokoria, Eidgaon, Ramu, Cox's Bazar, Ukhia and Gundum.

The Dohazari-Cox's Bazar rail line is a step to connect the country with the Southeast Asian countries through Trans-Asian Railway (TAR), the railway sources said.

The government has a plan to connect the country's railway with 81,000km network stretching from Europe to Asia.

Sources said the first survey for the railway line from Dohazari to Cox's Bazar was conducted in 1890 during the British colonial regime. But due to the first and second World War the construction work could not be started.

The first feasibility study on the rail line was conducted in 2001 during the previous Awami League regime.

Thats a separate contract...It is mostly for urban and sub urb region around dhaka..

China International Electronic Commerce Center

Highly unlikely, but if the news is true good for Bangladesh. Buying rolling stock is possibly the last step in setting up high speed line.

Pre feasibility, technical feasibility, economic feasibility, land acquisition, and then you think about rolling stock procurement. No news about any of that and straight away you hear news about rolling stock. So yeah doubt it.

Also, Tangshun is subsidiary of of CNR, so its the same company. Both contracts talk of 20 train sets, can't be a coincidence can it?

.
I haven't found any BD newspapers reporting it. But since it is from ChinaDaily the report must be authentic . But do we have the money. It requires multi billion $$ for HSR and we haven't heard of any feasibility study by the Gov.If we are really getting it we will be instantly going from 40km/h to 300km/h.

The stuff that you posted that talk about commuter train but here it is talking about high speed train. Both are different stuff. Thats why I said these are different contract based on the news as it has mentioned it as high speed train and even mentioned it as 1st china's export of such train. Just wonder has not china exported any commuter train yet??

The following part is clearly indicating high speed train..

On July 23 of 2011, a high-speed train slammed into a stalled train near the city of Wenzhou in the eastern province of Zhejiang, leaving 40 dead and 172 injured.

The company recalled 54 trains it supplied for the high-speed rail between Beijing and Shanghai three weeks later. All the trains resumed service in December after modifications and repeated tests, according to the Ministry of Railways.

Dhaka <-->Tongi is feasible as commuter line. But even if we get these trains, these will not operate in 300km/h. Most likely speed could be at or above 100km/hr which is feasible.

My bad, I misinterpreted the news. They are not exporting the train sets, just some signalling and control systems.

The contract contains 20 sets of high-speed rail network control systems, 40 sets of traction inverters and 40 sets of auxiliary inverters, the newspaper said without mentioning how much the contract is worth.

congrats bangladesh just few questions-:
1) are these trains bullet trains ?
2)as these trains are expensive as they need new infrastructure ,do bangladesh needs them as one can travel anywhere in bangladesh within a day ?(with normal trains)

But Bro according to wiki, High speed trains are defined as those that travel at speeds of more than
200km/h. I am still finding it hard to believe this news. Our current trains are of technology from the british era and travel at speed of just 40-50km/h. The modern day diesel Electric trains(not high
speed trains) travel at more than 100km/h. And on top of it all, the real question is is it economically
feasible for BD commuters. Can BD commuters afford the luxury of HSR.

That could be an answer... China daily also said that those are core of the bullet train... Bullet train procurement will then follow next...

It is the very first time that China exports the core technology of its bullet train, and it marks that China has mastered this core technology through a long-time absorption and innovation after it is imported from foreign countries.

This is likely 20 sets of high speed railway network system and bullet train or high speed train will follow next...

Could it be just for grand standing and show? We dont know lots of details to answer all questions we have. Lets see if we could gather more info on intended se of these train?

fcuk man we need these fast. These days nothing moves in the streets of Dhaka during office hours.

.
dhaka needs a damn subway or a bloody metro, i am sick and tired of the traffic in dhaka:taz:

.
Bullet train is our very old project.
We need to give pace to our transport sector. So we need to upgrade train network by old technology.

But we have to see old indian train r capable of getting more speed but we r unable to get those for the purpose of heavy traffic & many other obstacles.

.
I am dreaming of the day we can take a high speed rail to Kunming, Hanoi or Singapore.
