Bangladesh takes over term presidency of D-8

The organization will be great if both Egypt and Bangladesh practice real democracy. It could become a powerful block in OIC someday.

What makes you think Iran and Pakistan practice real democracy ? @Indos

Yup, Pakistan should drop their military influence and make them professional soldiers, cut their ties on politics, civilian business and government institution.

Iran is controlled by Ayatullah Ali Khameini it is right, but at least is much better than in Egypt and Bangladesh where oppositions are jailed and killed.

Have you been an opposition leader or figure in Iran in the past 40 years ?

Can you make your question a bit clearer since I dont understand what you were saying there

Look at the history of Iran since 1979. Look at how many Iranian exiles are in the West
It is the least democratic regime of all the countries in the D-8

Yes they are called a Republic. They have a Parliament

Any idea when Bangladesh will be full democracy ??? You guys dont have history when a military made a coup like in many countries, so I guess the road is more wide open. I think if Hasina dies.

There should be preparation for that, using that momentum to democratize Bangladesh and let all powers there both Nationalist and Islamist live side by side in harmony and compete heathily in real and fair elections where all sides abide with the rule of the game and accept the winner regardless which camp become the leader.

Competition between both camps will make them force to produce good policy, overall it will be good for the long term country future.

There are concrete signs that BNP, which used to be the primary opposition party in Bangladesh, is softening its hardline stance and is interested in forming a coalition govt, with the Awami League, the ruling party. For AL, this would be a watershed opportunity.

Hifazat-e-Islam and Jama'at-e-Islami, the two main conservative religious parties may also be part of this coalition and they seem to be softening their political hardline stance as well.

We will see in good time what comes of this.

There is a saying that "There is no last word, friends or enemies in politics". Politics is an opportunist's game. So shall it be in Bangladesh too. We need check and balance in our politics, give and take.

American politics is built on a system of checks and balances (lot of horse trading, it seems, prior to the right wing nutjobs' insurrection attempt).

One thing is for sure - the leftists and the right-wingers in Bangladesh have to learn to respect each other and each others' philosophies.

Hopefully this will spawn a more stable electoral process and a democracy, as opposed to the one party rule and rogue free-for-all we have now.

I think he was saying "seen" instead of "been"...

I meant "been". I have no beef with the Iranian state or its style of politics because I simply do not follow it. Having said that I have meet numerous people who fled Iran because of disagreements with their government
