Student protesters have stopped an influential minister’s car for driving on the wrong side of a key road in Dhaka in a breach of traffic rules.

The man is none other than Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed. His car was crossing the Bangla Motor intersection as he was heading home via Shahbagh after a meeting at the secretariat on Wednesday afternoon.

The students who launched a campaign for safe roads stopped his car for about 15 minutes.

At one point, Tofail got down from his car and tried to speak to them. The students then shouted a slogan — “We Want Justice”.

Police requested the protesters to let the car go, but they did not budge.

Some of them squatted in front of the car amid a chorus of slogans — “The Law Is Equal to Everyone. We Want Justice”.

Then the minister and his security team turned around and headed back to Shahbagh.

Thousands of students continued their protests, mostly in Dhaka, for the fourth day after a bus ran over and killed two college students in the capital earlier this week.

The protest started after a reckless driving Bus ran over school students and killed 2 on the spot and injured 13 students. The protest has been started by School and College students but now others also joining. It is the result of continuous road accidents by reckless driving vehicles.

I think cracking down on fake/fraudulent driving licenses is LONG overdue. No driving test, no experience, just some cash gets you a driving license. Even the BRTA idiots can make more money if they tighten this down more....we need more noise about this.....

Joint ambush by Police and Chatra League on students at Mirpur.

This is a bad precedent. The students will now get bolder if they get angry. This is not India. Next you will see brickbats and vandalizing of property and burning of ambulances, police vehicles and pictures of that splashed around world media. Not good.

Shahazahan should be kicked out of his position for his loose comments about the ongoing situation. He's a grade A chamar.

What is this chamar's education level? I had always thought he was an ex-cadre goonda guy. No party should choose these goondas as ministers. There should be a minimum education level...

@Bilal9 bhai, look at post #9 of @Cycle Macson bhai .
This photo I first saw yesterday 5.24 pm BD time in the wall of Mr pinaki bhattacharya.
This is the real role model of a developing nation that can soon be developed nation in few decades.
So only those students who are our future can make Bangladesh a developed country, not the Awami dakoo League .
If we see the practical steps we then can say that Bangladesh is developing at right pace.
But already Awami dakoo League and awami police League ( surely those f.ckers came by quota system ) are now attacking these kids.
And see every Awami PDF poster is silent now?
Because their Lord already proclaimed that all are activities of BNP Jamat, how pathetic.
So only who support BAL they are human to them And rest are street dog.
Did we expect such Bangladesh when we fought for freedom under East Bengal regiment?
If we want and work together ,we can make our roads such neat and clean forever.
We can develop at right pace. We need those future generation as our savior who are not snobbish and opportunist like our generation or like Awami supporters.
We can do better, much better bhai, if we can act as Bangladeshi together instead of partisan freaks.

Wow go students! Thanks to the police too for their restraint. Would've been bad if they started random lathi charge...

Street protests are the right of a population. If they have a backbone that is. How come we never see it outside Bangladesh and West Bengal (also to some extent Pakistan)? Are we the only intelligent people left in the subcontinent with some balls?

BNP Jamaat does not have to instigate protest due to gross injustice, the population cannot stay silent on injustice all the time.

Protests are necessary for any administration that ideally should be answerable to the majority population. If SHW thinks she can run a fascist regime this will really look bad in the next election. Even rigging won't help which means the elections won't have any participation.

SHW staying silent on this really looks bad. But I'll let the Awami cadre worry about this....

Brother , you don't get those news from USA Because media is full of govt paid yellow journalist and Indian dalal, even you see this forum is full of awami league, so how can you guys get the news?
Bangladesh is now ruled by wild animals and online activities are full with there chetona puppets.
Now you are getting some news because of common folks. Some Facebook activists are strongly critisizing them since years and Mr pinaki bhattacharya is one of them .
And recently few newspapers are giving news, all just just because of their ( those brave folks like pinaki or some others) activities with common folks.
After long days I am dreaming a progressive Bangladesh again where peoples dare to protest .
