Bangladesh slashed transit fee to please India, claims BNP

Direct their routes to our premium bridges and ferrys where they will have to pay similar tolls every cases. 5 bridges and 1 ferry in Padma. Calculate how much that will cost.

When the road robberies start - then the Awami govt. will be caught with its pants down.

Watch what happens when containers start going missing.....

1.NE Ffs are our strategic allies. Indian goods moving into NE only aids IA's COIN ops.
2. Indian truck drivers and helpers are notorious for rampant use of drugs. Most carry AIDS.
and other deadly diseases

Is BNP again trying to become Anti-India ? Will backfire.

Modi will want to send own security details with each convoy.

At least now they r talking abt some fees , ..................apparently. Bcs couple of years ago if people remember hasina's adviser infamously said that it would be uncivilized on BD's part to be demanding any transit fees from their indian masters. While according this dalal pro-indian hasina regime , demanding just fees from india is uncivilized , its perfectly civilized to be imposing VAT on education and increasing taxes and energy prices to unbearable levels. Bunch of low life scum bags.

Direct their routs ? Or is it another way of hiding the fact that u uncivilized chapati leaguers can't demand fees from your civilized Indian masters?

The BNP says a ‘morally weak’ Bangladesh government has slashed transit fee for Indian vehicles shipping goods to ‘please India’.

BNP Spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon told reporters that the move was ‘hurting’ Dhaka’s interests while benefitting Delhi.

He said an inter-ministerial meeting on Wednesday ignored a NBR proposal to impose a fee of Tk 10,000 on containers India would ship to its states through Bangladesh.

“The NBR proposed to charge Tk 1,000 per tonne but they (the policymakers) brought it down to Tk 580,” he claimed.

Using Bangladesh’s land route would significantly reduce distance and save costs for India in transhipping goods to its north-eastern states.

“Bangladesh could have gained from the economic benefit India will enjoy [from here],” he said, adding, “We’re only demanding our just share.”

The government has been saying that both the countries would benefit from improved regional connectivity.

India’s mountainous north-east is surrounded by Bangladesh, Myanmar, Bhutan and China. The only land route to these states from within India is through West Bengal.

But floods and landslides in monsoon make road transport difficult. Frequent strikes and blockade by various groups further aggravate the situation.

Agartala via Guwahati, for instance, is 1,650 km from Kolkata. The distance between Agartala and Kolkata via Bangladesh is just about 350 km.

Ripon said his party was in favour of strengthening economic ties with India but it opposed ‘lenient’ policy.

“We don’t believe India wants to be unilaterally benefitted by getting low transit fee,” he said. “This morally weak [Bangladesh] government has brought down the fee to Tk 580 to please India.”

Tk1000 per tonne is excessive in my opinion. For a truck carrying a 30 tonne load has to pay tk 30,000 for 350km is not doable. For similar load and distance Pakistan charges Afghanistan tk 16000. Go figure guys!

What is the alternative? Going around using 1650 km route instead of 350 km? What would the petrol for 1650 km cost? Never mind the wear and tear on the truck itself...

One does always have that option if they like...

The fact that the transit option now exists is fortuitous in itself. One shouldn't look a gift-horse in the mouth (relatively speaking).

Pricing is done not only to maximise profit, but also to ensure that your client doesn't become tempted to find an alternative solution, that's what is called a sustainable business model.

About options, we use goods trains which is a cheaper option, plus the money stays with the government.
