What's new

Bangladesh sets $67 billion export target for current fiscal year

Bd sell mostly underwear and order is 30 percent down. So not sure what trend we are talking about. Export will go down below 30 billion with 30 percent less order. While import will jump to 50 percent based on global market of commodities.

This is expected when your 90 percent Export comes from garments alone.

Hence the suggestion to send more maids to saudi Arabia. You know that's how former asian tiger economies like south korea and taiwan did. They send there women to get **** to become what they are now. Bd is following same path. As per famous indian restaurant worker.

Also no electricity and production cut on top of 30 percent less order.

What should we do then??

Export beef to India?

Tell you what, its your lucky day today.

I will send you samples of cloth, and now your days of wearing cheap saree is over.

Bangladesh is not a big manufacturer of lingeries yet, otherwise would have send you samples to try out.

As you are a female and I show respect to your kind, please let me know what else you want, we make pajamas, sanitary napkins.

Do not know if its your time of the month yet, but dont worry, I will send a years supply. You can say goodbuy to your old fabric napkins that you have to reuse.

I will send you tooth brush paste as well and also send instruction on how to brush teeth as well.

Cant think of any more but do let me know

JERUSALEM, July 20 (Reuters) - Israeli exports are on track to hit a record $165 billion in 2022, up 15% from 2021, the Economy Ministry said on Wednesday.
Economy Minister Orna Barbivai attributed the rise from $143 billion last year - which was up 25% from 2020 - to opening more economic annexes globally that help exporters, as well as easing regulations for businesses and bringing foreign retailers to Israel.
Exports have risen sharply from $96 billion in 2016.

The ministry noted that much of the rise this year will come from services, such as in transportation, tourism and R&D from sales of start-up companies. Goods exports, it added, look to rise due to growth in medical and optical equipment, chemicals and diamonds.
Europe remains Israel's largest trading partner with $37 billion of bilateral trade over the first half 2022, excluding diamonds, followed by Asia with $21 billion, data from the Central Bureau of Statistics showed. The United States stayed as Israel's largest partner by country at more than $10 billion over the first half of the year, followed by China at nearly $9 billion.

Orders are not placed a year in advance. A temporary dip in orders does not imply exports will be down for the entire Financial Year.
There is nothing wrong with exporting low-end garments products like underwear - low-end essential wear tends to have inelastic demand and are therefore more resilient against economic downturns.

The energy crisis is temporary. Even the US is ramping up oil imports from Russia. The market will soon get flooded with oversupply triggering a free fall in price.

You have assumed exports will be down for the entire year while at the same time concluded that import bills will rise by 50% despite new restrictions.
You need to be more positive in your outlook.

Childish squabbles with other members is no justification for berating the country all the time.

If you know it all, you can come back to Bangladesh and start fixing things.
Its not temporary dip. The inflation in the west will continue till end of 2023 and as us feds keep raise interest rate spending will go down further. Unfortunately bd dont have anything else to sell other then cheap cloths. Thats where high value export countries do better and countries like bd based on selling basic t shirt will take the hit.

bd is totally dependent on import for most consumer items...fuel and raw materials etc. Even grain. Everything in international market will remain up for quite while. Have u seen futures and option of commodity market. Take a look. Its bad news for underwear superpower. Thats why all this drama to cut down power lol wont save the day. We all know its just bs. Mean time more bd businesses doing best not bring us dollar back home as they know us dollar is safe and taka fell more then 10 percent in last 4 months alone.

If u r smart u will keep us dollar and not bring it back. No one likes to catch a falling knife.

These things are not popular in Bangladesh like India. I do not see everyday people using these stuffs nor I find shops showcasing these products prominently.

Hajmola is used as candy for kids, unlike in India.

50% of the ingredients in Hajmola is just raw jaggery and sugar.

Ditto for Chaywanprash which is more like a jelly/spread and uneducated mothers feed this to their obese sugared children.

Of course you guys know what I mean rather than specific products.

Just two Indian companies (Britannia and Cadbury) hold majority sway over the food FMCG sector in Bangladesh. They have for over 30 years. 3rd rate items selling for low price because most of the products are expired that are exported to Bangladesh. I have personal experience with this as my friends have shown me themselves.

While high quality Bangladeshi exports to India (like Lead Acid batteries) never made headway in Indian market because they block our exports every chance they get, every which way they can.

I have made my point and will not discuss anything further on this.

Bro, let's not mention India when it's not necessary.
No point in blaming India for forex drain when our moronic population continues to buy Indian products and hire Indians for work.

Those are the points I was driving at. I did not blame Indians, fault is ours. If we stopped buying their stuff then they would not export so much. Point is that their stuff is way cheaper because,

a) economies of scale is an advantage for them

b) we do not 'level the playing field' for our local players by using tariff protection (while they do)

c) use of cheaper subpar ingredients for their stuff

If we took care of "B" then we wouldn't have to worry about the other two.

In any case I do not want to derail the thread - we are here to discuss 67 billion export target (which I think is wholly unrealistic).

Of course fanboys will come up with all sorts of "theory" kopchani. But there are many reasons why this target is not achievable. World runs on ground realities and not "theory".

By selling garments? Lol

Its already down 30 percent lmao

Cant even do simple forecast and ppl wonder why everyone makes fun of BBS.

Better send more maids to saudi to get *****. That will help forex.
You do not have to complain about the SA here. However, the news that the garments export sector is getting 30% fewer orders is alarming for the immediate future of the country.

I was dreaming of $100 billion in exports within a few years. I think the situation will change gradually to a positive one.

Those are the points I was driving at. I did not blame Indians, fault is ours. If we stopped buying their stuff then they would not export so much. Point is that their stuff is way cheaper because,
Again, you are making baseless claims against India. Can BD survive without importing rice, wheat, onions, and other foodstuffs? Can BD survive without importing Indian cotton throughout the year?

He is a obviously very smart like Einstein level, lately he commented on my getting higher education. As he got his phd from Whatsapp and quite proud thinking that was distance learning.

I put him on 'ignore' list after he had the nerve to put a "laugh' emoji when I started a thread back end of last year that BD government had defeated coronvirus and it was time to move on from the virus. The two others that joined him were also instantly put on the same list.

It was not a split-second decision but was building up and my time on this forum is massively improved by not even seeing their posts or replies/mentions unless I specifically click to see it.

No problem with people disagreeing with me but you need to give credible reasons why as otherwise it is not productive.

Anyway, I think we have enough like minded people here now that the few BD trolls have been pushed back into the sidelines, and with the banning of nilgiris latest reincarnation the BD sub-section is once again a good place with interesting and productive discussions.

PS - That dumb thread of his caused hijacking of many BD threads as it encouraged so many trolls to come to this section and diss BD and its people. Anyone with any sense of pride in their country would never even think about such a stupid idea.

It is only July 2022 and 11 more months remain for this fiscal. We may see great improvements on getting orders from the Westerners from now.

Let us hope the export volume reaches $67 billion this fiscal. We do not have to be pessimistic on our export performance. It is too early to predict anything good or bad.
