Bangladesh: Profits of commercial vehicle sellers slump in Q1

According to BBS, the size of Bangladesh land transport sector is $28.4 billion.

The percentage share of land transport sector in Bangladesh's is 8.8% which is higher than the GDP share of all modes of transportation in India (7%).

There is are just 2 problems.

Problem 1: The number of commercial vehicles in Bangladesh per capita is just a fraction of the same in India.

As of 2018, Bangladesh has just..

1/5 times the number of trucks
1/3 times the number of buses
1/14 times the number of light commercial vehicles (4 wheelers- goods)

...per capita, when compared with India.

Want to see something even more funny?

Divide the value addition of land transportation by the total number of commercial vehicles in Bangladesh (490K). Each vehicle adds $58K or 4 million taka to the GDP.

Problem 2: Despite claiming a higher GDP per capita than India & a higher share for land transportation in GDP, the primary energy consumption of Bangladesh is a fraction of that of India, per capita.

Primary energy consumption in quadrillion BTUs (British Thermal Units)- US Energy Information Administration.

Bangladesh: 1.551

That is 2.5 times more per capita.

So Bangladesh's road transportation sector is adding more than 2X per capita when compared with India while the country itself consumes just 2/5th of India's primary energy consumption per capita?

BD is a port economy genius. Unlike India we aren't trucking stuff across our borders 24/7. BD trucking is done mainly to and from ports.

It's also much smaller than India, so truck use isn't just less per capita - its lower by orders of magnitude. A truck can travel 10 times longer per trip in India, where BD is able to complete several deliveries across the country in the same time frame.

Also, India produces a lot more raw material than BD, hence the need for more trucks. And so on.

There are so many variables but only a biased airhead would try to pick out of context stats to inflate this Indian ego.

Dear troll, all trucks need not be large tractor trailers used for cross-country hub to hub transportation. There are smaller delivery trucks as well as smaller LCVs. Also trucks used in construction sector need not go cross country either.

The state of Tamil Nadu has a population of 72 million, a GDP of $290 billion & a land area of 130,058 sq. km.

Number of registered trucks in Tamil Nadu: 588K (Bangladesh: 163K)
Number of registered buses in Tamil Nadu: 113K (Bangladesh: 75K)
Number of registered LCVs in Tamil Nadu: 304K (Bangladesh: 38K)

BD has a handful of major population centres genius. The domestic supply chain does not require hundreds of thousands of trucks like the overblown mess that is India.

Add to this, our main land imports are from India and your truckers deliver straight to site. So tell me how do land cargo vehicle 'purchases' reflect the BD economy?

Mentioning the construction sector you have really shown your stupidity. It's well known that BD imports most of its cement. We were the 6th largest importer in the world in 2020 - and they deliver to site, so we don't need our own trucks.

No use obfuscating. India has something called ''national permits'' for long-distance inter-state trucks, Only 1.5 million of India's 5 million strong truck fleet have NPs.

That effectively means that the rest ply in their own states or in proximity.

And I did compare the number of light commercial vehicles, which are used for door-to-door transportation. Too bad cycle rickshaws aren't counted lol.
