Bangladesh Police foils LeT plan to attack embassies: India Today - Latest Breaking News from India, World, Business, Cricket, Sports, Bollywood.

The Bangladesh Police has busted a big Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) plot to blow up the Indian high commission in Dhaka. The terrorists also had the embassies of the US and the UK on its radar.

The terror plot was busted with the arrest of two LeT operatives and their Harkat ul Jihad al Islami (HuJI) accomplice in the port city of Chittagong recently.

The LeT operatives and their Bangladeshi partner from HuJI had a direct hotline with Pakistan. They were being given orders over the phone, straight from the Lashkar high command.

The terrorists had done a recce of the Bari Dhara diplomatic enclave in Dhaka to chalk out the attack plans. The three terror suspects are being grilled in custody.

Bangladesh's detective branch's deputy commissioner, Monirul Islam, has said that several suspects, including foreigners, are under the scanner.

Three Pakistani nationals, still holed up in Bangladesh, targeted the US Embassy and Indian High Commission in Dhaka for attacks before hajjas part of a Lashkar-e-Taiba's plan, said detectives yesterday.

Officials of the Detective Branch of police said they received the information from detained Bangladeshi LeT leader Mufti Harun Izahar, son of Islami Oikya Jote leader Mufti Izaharul Islam, and Harun's associates Shahidul Islam and Al Amin alias Saiful.

The detectives said during interrogation, the arrestees divulged that three Pakistani nationals aged around 30 came to Bangladesh two months back to execute the attack plan with the help of Harkatul Jihad al Islami members.

The LeT men also had plans to attack embassy officials or explode bombs in front of the diplomatic missions, said DB officials.

DB Assistant Commissioner Sanwar Hossain told The Daily Star, "We are trying our best to arrest the militants involved in the plot to attack the foreign missions."

Could this be in retaliation to the high profile arrests we made a few months back or they are going through their plan?Similar attacks in India are a possibilty isn't it Ejaz?FBI did a good job arresting those two terrorist,lot of info flowing in.

How come our embassy is issuing visas to those fanatics. Dont they check little bit of background before issuing visa? Tablig and Madrassa related visa should be banned from Pakistan untill the end of Taliban fight in Pakistan. This is getting real dangerous and pain in the A$$ now.

Tablig is the problem.Terrorists and foreign agents can easily infiltrate them.
But terrorists are getting smarter.They often don't keep beard and leads modern lifestyle.Don't you see most JMBs now caught have little or no beard.

Well it seems that LeT HUJI definitely had deep co-operation linking up with each other like the AQ does with local militant groups. How good their plan was and whether it would have been successful is only speculation.

Definitely a good job by Bangla police for nabbing these although there is some behind the scenes co-operation between Bangladesh US and India. Dare I say that possibly Pakistani officials may be providing info to the US as well after they arrested some LeT operatives in Karachi but just don't want to make it public for now.

I don't think its a retaliation for arrests done in Bangladesh because they were targeting Indian and US embassies, not Bangladeshi state organs. Possibly in their own twisted way they thought this would spoil Bangladesh-Indian relations that have been improving in the past few years.

These are follow up arrest made by FBI in usa. They found the link through confession of two terorrist in USA who had plan to attack US establishment all over the world including Bangladesh.

They thought BD is a soft target, which is completely wrong. Our intellegence already pentrated their network and they are always one step ahead of the terorrist. Huge arms, grenade, bomb making material they ceased for the last 5 years as well as made thousands of arrest. That is why we did not have a single incidence since then.
