Bangladesh objects to India's plans to build dams in Meghalaya

This is a concern for the NE peoples also. Another reason why they feel India is a colonial power illegally occupying their land for commercial exploitation.

Don't you read news? They just had an uprising against these "illegals" who were *surprise surprise* Bangladeshi immigrants in their own words. :bunny:

Funny thing is that BD members here always say NE people will be liberated by Bangladesh while in Assam and Tripura, these NE INDIANS are busy cleaning out their homes from these illegals. Irony eh? :woot:

They CANNOT take it to any third party even if they have a strong case since India & BD have no Water Treaty on the lines of Indo-Pak Indus water treaty.

Thats exactly what I meant. They can take it to a third part neutral court, but they will always lose by default because they dont have a Water treaty.

In many ways, it shows the neglect that East Pakistan faced from 1947 to 71 as a part of Pakistan. The West Pakistanis, the first thing they did was sign the Indus Water Treaty with India, to make sure they get their share of water. However, you would think that they would have done the same thing for the East Pakistanis (since they were the same country), but couldn't be bothered if the East Pakistanis would die out of having no water to drink and/or use.

That contention is incorrect. International law provides rights / guarantees to the lower riparian nation. BD can whip India in the UN and raise hue and cry over this. International Court at The Hague is another place we can go to.

Why do you Indians troll so much on BD threads? This whole thread has a single post by one BD rest are all flame baits.

who cares. we will continue building the dam. go cry a river pole vaulters

You set a puppet here, now enjoy your time/

Every outcry originated from the public would go in vain until a patriot govt. is not set in Dhaka/

Yes it does, but not in amounts that would please BD. International laws only guarantee water at a minimum level (something over which all countries in the world including BD is already getting). To get more water, you sign Water Treaties where you get more water security in exchange of other diplomatic deals, like the Indo-Pak Indus Water Treaty.

Because Bangladeshis like to blame us for everything that goes wrong in their country. Also, you should go back to some other threads, Pakistanis troll way mroe in BD threads, especially in the 1971 threads.

1. That is the point. India isn't giving us even our minimum due.

2. The Farakka Treaty was signed but never honored by India.

3. India has been refusing to even discuss sharing waters of other rivers.

4. Meanwhile almost all rivers flowing into BD has been harnessed by India causing adverse effect on our agriculture and fishery. The largest, the one which is a pet project of APJ Kalam, is to divert Brahmaputra's water into the dry central Indian lands. India always denies this project exists, but we know Indian leaders are great fat liars.
