How many of our aircraft or ANY weapon system currently fielded for that matter come from India?
Answer is 0.
Many of our weapons come from China. In fact, it is Bangladesh's largest weapons supplier, and has good relations with it.
China makes good jets now. Other than the F-22 or the F-35, they can match against its Western counterparts.
But, most of the good ones aren't easily available in the export market due limited production and security reasons behind such advanced jets. This includes the J-10. The PAF will receive only a handful of them (approximately 36) by sometime near 2015.
There is the USA and UK. We have good relations with both of them. Even though they are easily available on the market, their jets cost money. They are also very costly to maintain which includes - spares, missiles and other components; all of which usually originate from the country of the jet's origin.
Our problems are lack of money and lack of resources to actually maintain advanced systems that Bangladesh would need to counter any threat, even from India.
And of-course as you mentioned in another post in this thread, there is a lack of actual commitment in...pretty much anything. Those are some of the reasons why I didn't join the air force.
One way or another, Bangladesh defense would initially always have to rely solely on some country or power bloc before becoming fully self-sufficient. The self-sufficient part is something India doesn't want in the long run
right from the beginning.
