Bangladesh Navy Ships BNS Somudra Avijan and BNS Somudra Joy, with 97 cadets embarked onboard, are on a goodwill visit to Port Blair. During the ships’ stay in harbour various professional, social and sports interactions are scheduled between the two Navies. The Navies of Bangladesh and India have a long standing and professional relationship and this visit of the Bangladesh Navy Ships to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands would further strengthen the bond between the two Navies.

I have never seen any navy flying another countries flag on their boat when going on a friendly visit or whatsoever. According to commonwealth nations navies ... British navy tradition beliefs flying another countries flag on a boat is a bad omen. Just like how having women on board is a bad omen but having little children(boys/girls) is a blessing.

.
This is good news, hope these two nations strengthens their relation.

:o: Well crap. I must have doomed half the Sjøforsvaret!!

Don't be silly.....no one in Bangladesh believes this. Women serve in Bangladesh Navy in all sorts of roles. I'll post pictures soon.:-)

Keep your patriarchal mindset in your pocket.

It's naval tradition that every country except Bangladesh follows...

Not really. Most Western nations allow women to serve on naval ships. I did.

I Norway women are free to serve in any branch, in any role, even as submariners.

Of course they can serve on surface ships too, like this Nansen class frigate transiting near Egypt.

This includes the smallest surface vessels like the Skjold class corvettes.

Even non-naval personal are allowed on ships, such as these women who are part of an Air Force Search and Rescue unit, as was I.

It's not tradition, nor is it bad luck.

The ship has good displacement, they can put some cruise missiles on it.

There's not a lot of room for anti-ship or cruise missiles on the Hamiltons though. Maybe aft of the helo pad?

I guess there's room on the side if you want to cant them outwards, like on the Hauk class patrol boats, but that limits space for people to move around.

Flags of own and country being visited are routinely hoisted. Actually a great tradition!

And women serve on board ships the world over. No idea about the bad omen, I guess by the logic, every house will have this bad omen

What weapon systems does it host?

Sensors and processing systems: AN/SPS-40 air-search radar, MK 92 FCS
Armament:
Aircraft carried: 1 × Hangar (probably one of the AgustaWestland AW109s)

The two ex-Hamilton-class cutters are meant to be large training vessels for naval cadets at this time, as evidenced by this trip to Port Blair and Colombo. A third cutter has also been offered by the US and has been (or will probably be) accepted.

These will be modified in time - but I don't see BN spending money on putting teeth on an older vintage class vessel like this. Like putting FM-90s on this.

The Flagship is still the rather modern frigate BNS Bangabandhu and BN will in time upgrade the flagship class to a much more capable larger vessel in keeping with the times.Type 054A class, Incheon-class (Batch II) and MILGEM class are all strong contenders for this role.

Though I believe the smaller 2000 ton classes will fall out of the running. It will need to be a 4000 tonne displacement vessel (or larger).

Who knows - maybe a Fridtjof Nansen-class with ToT from Navantia. :-)

@Norge Stronk ?
