Bangladesh Navy Gets Two New C-13B Corvettes

Bangladesh ordered first C-13 in 2012. When did the first Type-56A roll out? The ASW version only has towed sonar if i am not wrong and lacks bow/hull mounted sonar.
Type 056 has bow mounted sonar.

90b are not retiring anytime soon, are they?

Even then 8 subs is a lot of firepower, I don't see Indian navy getting into your sea territory without being torpedoed by these underwater hunters.
4 type 55 heavy frigates and 4 ada frigates are on order and will be joining soon
Pakistan navy is small with goal of aerial deniability and keeping opening of at least some ports open

I don't understand we are still arguing C13B 's ASW.

Guys, C13B & durgam class weren't designed to be stand alone systems. Durgam class was designed to be modular switching between ASW & AShW. While C13B was designed to provide EW & radar coverage which Durgam class was too small to house. We elemenated the ASW but used the margin for better survivability. Read on the specific design changes it has with PLAN type 56.

C13B covers the gap that we had between Type 53H and Durgam class, in electronic warfare and & close range defence. They are Data linked in real time and will cover for each other. In a war scenario this three will operate together with a mission of area denial.

BN has long ago changed it's doctrine. They very well know with current resources they can't win a blue water game, bit they sure as hell won't let anyone elese operate in our EEZ. So they concentrated their resources on that. FOR NOW.

10 subs will be overkill .... but having 16 frigates and 10-12 corvettes, 6 subs sounds like a better force

With numbers, quality should be stepped up as well. And standardization of classes by local manufacture, for simplification of maintenance and storage of spares.

I remember the Navy used to be happy with antiquated sensors like old radars made by the lowest bidder or mostly second-hand stuff. Now no one in the Navy is happy with anything other than 3D radar as well as complete encrypted data integration between multiple platforms, to combine a networked war-fighting scenario. The ultimate goal should be forwarding the state-of-the-art while maintaining war-fighting readiness and vigilance,, using non-stop training and exercises.

Sir it's type 54 Ap

Type 54 is a has been frigate design. Google is your friend. Type 55 is the new design for the future.

Towed Array SONAR is more accurate I believe...

Plz read my previous two thread. Why are you making me repeat the same thing and don't understand that Durjoy/ specially Durgom was built to play ASW role and ease C-13B's workload. The removal of ASW capability was mainly done due to the mission requirements of the shadhinota class. The area over which the shadhinota class operates is shallow and unsuitable for submarine warfare and if required specialized ships such as Durgom class will provide asw protection.

I dont think you understood what i was talking about. I understand that they are for configured for different dedicated roles one for underwater threats and the other for surface threats. I get the fact that C13B will be used against surface vessels only and wont be used to hunt subs. But why strip them off any defensive measures against subs.

What bothers me is that the LPC Durjoy, which will be mostly used for surface combat, is equipped with ASW rocket launchers to defend itself in case of submarines. So why arent the C13B at least equipped with them? The C13Bs are clearly one of the more capable vessels in our fleet and has greater firepower and range than the durjoy class. But only the surface combatants durjoy and nirmul gets ASW rocket to defend themselves.

Type 056/A is the very low-cost corvette in PLAN, and China plans to build about 64 ones.

I don't understand why Bangladeshi Navy still chooses to give up its ASW capability.

I think its a combination of dedicated surface warfare role for the ship as well as saving costs. But i do agree on the fact that they should have some ASW capability, in order to defend itself.

We are buying 8 subs. But all 70s and 90Bs are going to retire soon

No Augusta 90b would be retired. They are very much new and are a very potent submarine force. They are first submarine with AIP in South Asia.

Why the hell we would retire them?

No they are not didn't Turkey upgraded them just in recent past

Yes

Turkey is further upgrading them even though they are already very much new

Augusta 90b aren't going anywhere anytime soon

90b are not retiring anytime soon, are they?

Even then 8 subs is a lot of firepower, I don't see Indian navy getting into your sea territory without being torpedoed by these underwater hunters.

Nope. No 90b is retiring. They are first submarine in South Asia with AIP. They are getting further upgrades in Turkey. They are a very potent weapon.

There is no reason to retire them anytime soon.

PN submarine force would consist of 3 90b + 8 Hangor Class subs (Chinese) = 11 subs

I am displeased by the fact that the C-13B totally lacks any anti submarine. This to me seems really shortsighted. I understand that they will only be used for surface combat but having no anti-sub capability to even defend itself seems really foolish.

Even the first 2 durjoy class LPCs, which are mostly geared for surface operations, are equipped with 2x6-tube EDS-25A 250 mm ASW rocket launcher. The weapon design is kinda old as its based off RBU 1200. but at least it has self defense capability against subs.

IMO, the C-13B should at least add some ASW launchers in the future. It has a greater range endurance and firepower than our LPCs. They should be equipped ASW to defend itself or fend off submarines.
BD will have totally different fleet for ASW operation. I think having ASW in c-13 will make it weaker at the time of war for trying to do too much multi tasking

. . .
No it can't. It lacks the sensors and armaments it require to do that. It's only equipped with AESA for maritime surveillance.

Dornier MPA is not really a sub-hunter platform. Recon and patrol yes, sub-hunter no.

For the short term (shipboard ASW), we're getting these,

For the longer term, we MAY get these (but not with Elbit systems, political issue),

BNS Sangram and BNS Prottyasha docked the Chattogram Naval Jetty on Saturday, the navy said in a statement.

They have a maximum speed of 25 knots and are both 90 meters long and 11 meters across the beam.

The warships have deck landing and takeoff facilities for helicopters. They are equipped with modern artillery guns, including ground-to-air and ground-to-ground missiles, advanced 3D radar, fire control system and radar jamming system.

The ships can be deployed for a long time in the deep sea and will help ensure greater security for Bangladesh’s maritime resources.

Bangladesh Navy and China's Ship Building and Offshore International Company Limited signed an agreement on building the two warships on Sept 29, 2015.

The construction of the warships started on Aug 9, 2016 and the distributing company handed them over to the Bangladesh Navy on Mar 28 this year.

The ships started for Chattogram port from China’s Yantian port on Apr 12.

Each of the ship is 90 metres in length and 11 metres in width, and can sail at top speed of 25 knots

Two new Bangladesh Navy warships--‘BNS Sangram’ and ‘BNS Prottasha’ - arrived at Chittagong Naval Jetty.

Chittagong Naval Zone Commander, Rear Admiral Abu Ashraf BSP, NCC, PSC welcomed the china made ships as the chief guest, on Saturday.

High officials, and a large number of sailors from Bangladesh navy were present on the occasion, according to a press statement from Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR).

Each of the ship is 90 metres in length and 11 metres in width, and can sail at the top speed of 25 knots (nautical miles per hour).

Equipped with two modern artillery guns, land to air, and ground-to-ground missile, sophisticated 3D radars, fire control systems, radar jamming systems, and various types of combat equipment, these ships are capable of hitting enemy airplanes, ships, and establishments. Both ships have helicopter decks, said the release.

An agreement was signed with China's Ship Building and Offshore International Company Limited on September 29, 2015, to build the two corvettes for Bangladesh Navy.

The construction of the two ships started with steel cutting on August 09, 2016, and the builder handed over these ships on March 28, 2019.

The warships sailed 8,000 km, from Yantian port of China through Kalang port of Malaysia, and arrived at the naval jetty.

It's a light corvette. The Type 056 corvette fills the capability gap between the Type 022 missile boat and the Type 054A frigate which is suited for mid-range missions and littoral duties, but not for major blue-water combat operations.

it is built with a 15-day endurance for combat missions such as patrol, escort and protection of EEZ maritime interests within 200 nmi (230 mi; 370 km) from the coast, freeing up larger warships for open ocean deployment. So BN's next new frigate can be deployed in deep sea. And these corvettes will be accompanied by Durjoy/Durgom class LPC which closes the fire power gap pretty much. The Algerian C-28A heavy corvette is the best Type-56 variant so far.

Nah next gen frigate project should get priority first to secure the surface. Our submariners need more experiences.

Really beautiful ship!

If 10 sub will be overkill then surely we need them. After all I want Bangladesh military as a very strong military power in this region.
