On 19 October 2021, a brand new General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) Do228NG performed its first flight from Oberpfaffenhofen (Bavaria, Germany). The aircraft is the third Bangladesh Navy Do228-212NG, adding to the two already in service. It was already seen in full colour scheme on 12 October during an engine test.

The Do228-212NG, with serial number 314-03 and registration S3-VHS (c/n 8322) flew with test registration D-CAEO as "Dornier 211" from Oberpfaffenhofen. This latest purchase by Bangladesh is the first of a follow-up order of two which will augment the existing fleet of two. These Do228-212NGs, S3-VHQ with serial 314-01 (c/n 8306) and S3-VHR, serial 314-02 (c/n 8307) were delivered in May and October 2013.

. . . .
Why more of these? They can’t do much other than patrol anyways.
i don't think these have much offensive capabilites. just detection.

the thing is

BD ppl know and understand what the problem with their country is (and acknowledge it unlike supapowa neighbour(s) ). But they don't do anything about it.

We have a fetish in patrolling and transporting. We will not buy armaments rather things that can do these 'soft' activities.
Relax. Transporting and patrolling are daily necessities.

You can't patrol BoB round the clock with the likes of P-8's - they are not economical. Two units of Dornier 228NG's are not enough for patrolling. Piracy, smuggling, trespassing and other crimes happen daily on BoB while an actual war might never happen.

BN does need to get offensive aircraft but not at the expense of economical patrol aircraft.

I bash BAF all day long for many reasons but I never criticised them for getting transporters.

One step at a time i guess.

We did not have monitoring capacity of BOB....these resolves that.

Hopefully there is data link between these and coast guard and BN navy assets so that we can check incursions.

We are far from securing and monitoring BoB. There is little point having offensive capacity without establishing situational awareness of our Sea. The same logic at play regarding the various radar acquisitions.
