তিনি বেনারকে বলেন, “আমাদের যে ২০০ কিলোমিটার এক্সক্লুসিভ ইকোনোমিক জোন আছে অর্থাৎ ব্লু ইকোনোমির জন্য নৌ বাহিনীর বিশেষ গুরুত্ব রয়েছে।”

“পাঁচটি জাহাজ নৌ বহরে যুক্ত হওয়ার খবর ইতিবাচক,” মন্তব্য করে তিনি বলেন, “তবে এগুলো খুব বড়ো ধরনের জাহাজ নয়। আমাদের আরো কমপক্ষে দুটো সাবমেরিন দরকার, আরো কিছু বড়ো যুদ্ধ জাহাজ দরকার।”

মিয়ানমারের সাথে যা সম্পর্ক তাতে যেকোনো সময়, যে কোনো কিছু হতে পারে—এমন আশংকার কথা উল্লেখ করে তিনি বলেন, “দেশটি মাঝে মাঝে আমাদের বিভিন্ন দ্বীপকে নিজেদের বলে দাবি করে, এটা ভালো লক্ষণ নয়। কাজেই নেভিকে শক্তিশালী করা দরকার।”

Summery: Currently BN possess 21 warships including the three newly commissioned ones. BN has more than 80 ships now. The security analyst thinks that inducting five warships is a positive thing but these are not much larger ships and BN needs more power and capability.

BN needs at least two more submarine and some more bigger warships. The current status of BD-MN relation and the way Myanmar often claims our island as their own is not a good sign. Anything can happen anytime. So we need to strengthen the navy.

Three of the five were bought from China, two built locally.

The Type 053H3 frigates BNS Abu Ubaidah and BNS Umar Farooq are refurbished former PLA Navy vessels with modernized sensor and weapons refits. F22P was based on the type 053H3 design.

These two frigates are stopgap purchases until the six indigenous local frigate programme and builds get underway.

BNS Prottasha is a C13B class (Type 056) 1300 ton missile corvette, commissioned and built at Wuchang Shipyard in China, She is the fourth in the series of our C13B's.

BNS Tallashi and BNS Darshak are modern catamaran hydrographic survey vessels built locally.
