In the midst of all our hopelessness and complaints about our education system, there’s perhaps one silver lining at last. Our education system is finally about to include compulsory vocational education at the school level.

The Education Minister of Bangladesh, Dipu Moni, expressed the necessity of implementing technical and vocational education in the education system of the schools in Bangladesh. She stated that every school has to make technical and vocational training compulsory from 2021.

“Every school must have at least two trades from which each student will choose one. If any student fails to complete higher education, he or she must get employed under the chosen programme.”

She stated.

Dipu Moni also added that the government wishes to develop this particular sector of education. So in essence, the process of reforming the education system has already started. And we can hope that a bright future lies ahead of us!

This is another Baat ki Baat and is talked by that renowned Dipu Moni who almost bankrupted the GoB by making foreign tours when she was the FM throughout the weeks, months and years. She had little scope to take bribes as FM. So, this is how she billed the govt for foreign trip allowance whenever she was overstaying out of the country.

I wonder, what she is after getting the Education Minister portfolio this time. She must have found out some ways of making money by promising vocational education. It must be a ploy.

Great idea.
We will see what becomes of it !

In the US, almost every highschool student is capable of taking courses in basic carpentry (woodshop), sheetmetal bending and welding (metalshop), automotive repair and many other critically needed vocational skills. Vocational skills need to be taught to build an industrialized society. Most high schools have a large well-equipped workshop and a certified skilled vocational teacher to assist with these skills.

More or less every male over the age of thirty knows how to change a tire, how to change the oil in most engines and about a third (probably more) are interested and versed in many more automotive skills such as electronic tuneups and suspension tweaks. Most household garages have at minimum a circular chop saw, a drill press and of course many handheld tools for carpentry. This is the culture that sustains skillsets needed to keep up industrial capabilities.

Almost half of those who do not go to college, still end up with a life-sustaining technical skill so they can earn a good living.

German education system is even more rigorous and splitting off of vocational and theoretical tracks start in eighth grade. Germans realized very early hundreds of years ago, that not every student needed or had the aptitude for theoretical knowledge. They formed the bund system wherein apprenticeships for industrial skills were passed on from older technicians to newer recruits in a very organized manner. This system still exists today and is the reason why Germany will always remain an industrial powerhouse for technically advanced products, even in the age of cheap labor from Asia.

Technical education of what? Learning welding or lathe machine or masonry work?
They should pay more attention to what they have now. 3 months technical education course can be offered as optional course not the mainstream curriculum.

I'd say we need welding as a number one vocational skill right now. The number of expert welders needed in shipbuilding both at home and abroad are increasing by the day.

Welding skills of all types are in great demand but MIG and TIG welding are specialized skills more in demand used to weld non-steel and thin gauge items.

As usual, it is again a hollow talking that I see every morning. Why? That Dipu Moni talks of January 2021 as the target date. Can I assume she has already built the workshops and bought the equipment in all the schools already, hired the Instructors and has already prepared the Curriculum? So, this is just another talk without any essence.

@TopCat, put away the question if this kind of education is necessary or not but if you really think it is possible to introduce that Dipu Moni course by Jan. 2021? If so, please write a few sentences about how she will hire teachers from those who themselves have no knowledge about the subjects. It is just another BAL story.

No - the problem, as already seen in other neighborhood countries, is not the numbers of (say) dumb, under-skilled, under-educated, welders. It is the quality of the skill-sets and expertise available.

First problem in our subcontinental culture is that kids of even lower middle class families will not want to pursue vocational education, it is not considered 'honorable' in social situations and especially at wedding times.

We have to change our mindsets.

If a person does not think welding is a honorable job to him they why waste govt money to teach him welding. Optioal vocational education can be offered so that the education will be available to those Who has real Interest in it and can be useful.

This @Bilal9 guy remains an uneducated crap who knows nothing of welding or anything except lying or photoshopping. Read below to know about the types of welding machines. That brat thinks himself highly educated but knows nothing about any of the subjects he participates in. Does he know about the types of welding are there depending upon the requirements? He thinks an illiterate like him comes with a welding rod in hand and welds. It is soooo------ easy only for that idiot.

The same is kinda true in good ol USA. Its a rarity that average students would want to pursue a vocational field of study. Parents of students who find school challenging, get in trouble, and/or suffering from ADD put them in vocational schools hoping they will have some skills to earn a living.

Ever wondered why car mechanics in the U.S. are such knuckleheads !

while i agree she was an incompetent ****... do you have credible proof to back up your statement?
