Bangladesh insurgents: Where did they acquire these lethal weapons from??

Yes, you are right. SB insurgency is now on hold. This are anti-india
insurgent caught by the order of India by our COAS MUA.

If it is ULFA then their funding is pretty easy to guess. They are into blackmailing/ransom/hafta business in Assam. They are also supposedly into drug running and manufacturing. They also have the porous border across to Myanmar which is part of the golden triangle of drug running and gun trading. Glad to see Bangladesh capturing them. They have previously cut across borders into Bangladesh and Bhutan where they set up camps (and at least in Bhutan, chased out).

Ex-NSI boss held

Former director (Security) of National Security Intelligence (NSI) Sahab Uddin was arrested in the capital’s Green Road yesterday for his alleged involvement in arranging transport and equipment for carrying the illegal arms and ammunition seized at CUFL jetty in Chittagong on April 02, 2004.

Sahab Uddin, a wing commander of Bangladesh Air Force who joined the NSI on deputation, went into voluntary retirement soon after the arms haul.

The arrest was made after detained NSI Field Officer Akbar Hossain Khan in a confessional statement before a magistrate on Saturday said he hired seven trucks and a crane from Greenways, a transport agency, for carrying the arms and ammunition on orders of Sahab Uddin.

The former NSI director, being taken to Chittagong amid tight security yesterday evening, is to be produced before a Chittagong court today, say sources in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) assigned to investigate the arms haul case.

Still,I would like to go with Khalid Bhai's explanation.M-16 is widely used in Thailand. In India only special forces use M-16,same with Bangladesh. But in Thailand it is the standard issue as far as I know.

But they probably got these from gunrunners as Khalid bhai already suggested.Don't think any Indian connection in this particular case.

Leon, Sorry you are wrong. M16 is an Infantry weapon and not in the inventory of the Indian Army.

All special forces world wide use M4A1 including the Israeli Special forces but not the Indian Special Forces.

The Indian's use MP5, AK 74 and now the Tavor. They have never used any US carbine / Assault Weapon till this moment.
