Bangladesh in 'desperate' search of vaccines, Momen tells CNN

To be honest BD did not have a choice if it wanted to source the extremely cheap and effective UK AstraZeneca vaccine. India was the only one licensed to produce it for itself and the 3rd world.

Chinese vaccines are not that good(+ very expensive) and anyway even Pakistan is getting very low shipments of Chinese vaccines and so BD may have been in a worse position with lower efficacy vaccine with lower shipments to date.

However, saying that, this turd is part of a government that could have got 4 million doses of Sputnik this month if they just accepted the standard 10 US dollar per shot offer from Russia, rather than get into the haggling game.

No sure whether the clueless Momen has any idea that the recommended two-dose interval for AstraZeneca is 12 weeks and the first dose will probably still provide high protection for many months more and so even stretching the 2nd dose beyond the 12 weeks probably won't matter too much in the end.
pakistan recived millions of AstraZeneca doses made in south korea.

pakistan have stock of next 45 days of jabs if we give 1 lakh doses per day

Chinese vaccines are very effective and have not shown any blood clotting issue of Astrazeneca which will soon be available in abundance as neither USA or Europe want it. Pakistan started slow because we didn't receive millions of free Astrazeneca. But right now there is no shortage of any vaccines with over 5 million Sinovac dosses administrated. Plus with China we know there will not be shortages.

Nope, Chilean data shows that it reduces deaths by 80% and so 20% fully vaccinated will still die than comparable non-vaccinated group. Chile is the best real-world test as it has used the Chinese vaccines in the greatest per capita proportion - higher even than China!
Other vaccines from USA and Europe reduce deaths by at least 97%.

Pakistan has given roughly 5 million vaccines so far and that is half of the near 10 million that BD , with 20% less population, has given.
Even now Pakistan is jabbing only around 100,000 people a day and so will not even be able to jab it's most vulnerable 20-25% with 2 shots by the end of this year unless it ramps up massively.

In case you didn't notice, you have a population of 180 million+. Very generous definition of shortage there.
Bangladesh may have bungled its sourcing of vaccines but we are still way ahead. You have just picked the wrong country to compare to.
Getting free vaccines is a diplomatic achievement.

China to send 600,000 more doses of Sinopharm COVID vaccine to Bangladesh as gift

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen asked for the doses in a phone conversation with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Friday evening, the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka said in a statement.

Nine days ago, China sent the first batch of 500,000 doses, which “fully reflects that China attaches great importance to the friendly relations between the two countries”, the statement said.

“China pays close attention to the latest situation of the epidemic in Bangladesh,” the embassy said.

“At the critical time point in Bangladesh's fight against the epidemic, China is concerned about the urgent need for vaccine of Bangladeshi friends and overcomes the huge demand for domestic and foreign orders and the shortage of vaccine supply.”

Its now over 200k per day and will increase from here. There are no shortages either as everyone above the age of 30 now can get one. Simply put Pakistan have not run out of vaccines while BD who dependent on India gifts has. Some studies are showing 86% effective which is very good tbh.

You can’t administer 20 million doses in a day, nor does every single person need to be vaccinated. Likely just half or so of the population, due to herd immunity, natural immunity and the build up of anti-bodies in already infected and then healed patients.
Pakistan will not face a shortage of vaccines due to how the government ordered them. There’s vaccines from the west, China and Russia readily available here and more are being delivered faster than it is humanly possible to administer them. Pakistan has already secured over 40 million orders apart from the 5+ million in storage.
Not to mention we’re starting local production next week. Unlike BD, Pakistans vaccine plan was actually well thought out, and why is it a bad comparison? Similar sized population from the same region. It is the Bangladeshis after all that open 50 threads a day to compare how BD has crossed Pakistan in everything.

PS: I got Sputnik myself. My entire family got Chinese ones, except for one that got Astra. No issues anywhere.

Yes but at current rates of vaccination of 100,000 per day according to Reuters it will take Pakistan roughly another 5 years just to fully vaccinate your most vulnerable 25% of the population.

What is the ramp-up plan and is it credible?

I am embarrassed to admit that our friends to the West shortchanged us big time, this will again probably be the thousandth time.

Our leader morons will never learn their lesson. With these kind of loser friends, who needs enemies?

Bhais lets not go into Pakistan situation - may be off topic. Humble reminder.

@Bilal9 bhai , perhaps our western friends lost their ability.

Perhaps you would be convinced by the two articles.

Please take a look and read them thoroughly whenever you have some free time.

And then

Bangladesh has a policy of "anybody who does us favours is bhai-bhai". Has its upsides and downsides.

If you walk into a BD govt office, you would realise how incompetent our officials are. They can't even type up their own reports, print them out or even make their own coffee.

They rely on poorly educated staffers to prepare critical contractual documents for them to sign. Often they are too lazy to even stamp them themselves.

The errors that Momen listed do not surprise me one bit.
hmm...

What? when did that happen? I don't think Bangladesh purchased any western vaccines?

We have also ordered 10s of millions of doses Sputnik V, AstraZeneca and Sinopharm, while the US is also giving us a limited quantity of AstraZeneca and Pfizer from their stocks.
Local production of Sputnik V and Sinopham in Bangladesh is in the works while AstraZeneca licence has also been sought.
Ordering them and actually getting them delivered and jabbed on time are two different things. Even Western countries are struggling to keep on schedule, mainly due to production issues.
I would not put forward bold statements like "Pakistan will not face any shortages" as you simply don't know.
If your rollout strategy was "well thought out", you would be well ahead of us instead of lagging behind. I do hope you achieve herd immunity ASAP but Pakistan should have acted a lot quicker.
