When the migs were ordered, the Chinese j10s weren't available to us. Anyway the Bangladeshi gov will shop around and buy what it considers value for money, an with its small budget it has to, we have never spent much on defence as a percentage of our GDP, just over 1.2%.

But things are changing now, our economy is expanding fast and we can afford to buy/build more. More fighter, trainer, corvettes, frigates, submarines, tanks, artillery.....

We need to bring the Bangladeshi private yards into this, Western Marine, Ananda, etc. By building more naval vessels in Bangladesh we will a huge adrenaline shot in the shipbuilding industry.

In the near future Bangladesh has to design and develop their own corvettes, maybe as a joint venture with China and other friendly countries. One option could be to build the next 2 corvettes in Bangladesh, then co-develop a more advanced corvette based on the type 056, jointly with the Chinese.

A very small step has started, Western Marine recently laid the keel for the first naval vessel for export, a OPV for Kenya.

Western marine are one of our best and I am highly proud of them, there an example for other ship builder in Bangladesh.

Obsolete ming and couple of corvettes can never be an headache to India and it never was. If India objected, witch hasina would have stayed clear of even contemplating such purchase and these purchases have more to do with filling the pockets of her cronies than anything else. The armed forces have been destroyed by India and AL via the pilkhanna massacre. A broken army with obsolete toys is no headache for India or Hasina whereas these purchases helps her corrupt cronies fill in their pockets and china also makes some money in the process. China have so far stayed clear of even contemplating selling anything sensitive to these dalal regime in BD.

@wanglaokan, this BD regime don't make any major decisions without India's consent. This is an Indian propped up regime that doesn't worry china in the least if it can make some money. BD is not that important in china's geostrategic calculations like PAK and SL or nepal and bhutan.
