Bangladesh: Hindu population share grows by 1% in a year, claims report
The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics report which has been published is based on a random sampling with the data collected from 12,012 areas

The number of Hindus in Muslim- majority Bangladesh has grown by one per cent to 1.70 crore in one year constituting 10.7 per cent of the population by the end of 2015, an official report said on Thursday.

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) said their latest vital sample statistics report found the country’s total population to be 15.89 crore by the end of 2015 with the number of Hindus at 1.70 crore.

Previous BBS studies showed Bangladesh’s Hindu population size was 1.55 crore in 2014 suggesting that the numbers of the country’s largest minority community increased by 1.5 million in one year. Hindus are the second largest population group in terms of religion.

The statistics come as Hindu community leaders expressed fears that their number was decreasing gradually as a sense of insecurity forced many Hindus to leave the country for neighbouring India over the decades.

According to the 1951 census, Hindus were 22 per cent of the population, in 1974 the figure came down to 14 per cent and the last 2011 census suggests the followers of faith consists only 8.4 per cent of the population.

“The BBS statistics which has been published today is actually based on a random sampling. If it represents the real picture, definitely I will be the happiest man in the country,” Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council presidium member Kajal Debnath said.

A BBS official, familiar with the process said the random sampling report was prepared this year with the data collected from 12,012 areas while the previous report was prepared with data gathered from 1,500 areas.

Delusional Bharati in this forum will still claim, illegal Indian migration in Bangladesh not happening.Did those 1.5 million extra Hindu fell from sky?

You mean to say that the Hindus still living in Bangladesh have stopped producing children out of fear and insecurity?

It used to be about 32%-33% in 1940's....

@Doyalbaba

At 1% growth rate of Hindus in BD is less than the national average of 1.2% and by default Muslim growth rate which should be higher than 1.2%.

Not really a cause for celebration or is it ?

As @Rain Man put it, did BD Hindus stopped reproducing out of fear or you don't understand how babies come to this world?
You should read carefully. This article is not saying yearly growth of 1% but 1% share increase in total population.Hindu used to 9 percent of total population, now it is more than 10 percent.Which means 1.5 million in a single year or around 10% increase from last year.

I doubt it, it's data fudging to hide the truth. :)

I've said it before, BD is crammed with Indians coming for jobs or to try their luck (they bring very little money to be honest).

We have not complained once, while stingy Indians have been crying like their roti was eaten by a bangali. A poor country like Bd is teaching super India lessons in graciousness.

There used to be 43% idiots in India in 1947, now it's about 97% in 2016. Demographic growth is a natural phenomenon, we can't control it.

Showing religious based demography is only Indian thing. Their existence is based on religion (Two nation theory) and still today religious politics is above all to them. BD is based on Bengali nationalism secularism and there is no need to show these religious data, it just divides people.

Let me do a little math. (17.0 million of 2015 population - 15.5 million of 2014 population) = 1.5 million increase in one single year. So, the rate of increase is {(1.5m x 1/17m) x 100)} = 5,82%.

This is an absurd figure for a natural increase of population. I conclude, many of the 2nd or 3rd generation descendants of the dissatisfied Hindus who migrated to that Ghotiland called India's Paschim Bongo are now coming back to their forefathers' native homeland trusting a bright future awaiting here for people of both the majority and minority sects.

I met a few who are doing well in business and salesmanship. BD needs educated young people to build up a better future for the country.

Watch out @Rain Man & @Nilgiri

Exactly, there are already reports on that.

Gimme a break!!!

According to 2011 Bangladesh census your population was 142.3 million, increased to 158.9 million (as per above) over 4 years and Hindus were 12 million (as per 8.4% of 142.3). So, total increase of 16.6 million in 4 years, while Hindus increase by 5 million!!! So in 4 years total pop. increased by just 12%, while Hindus increased by 41%!!!. :hitwall:
Take the report and dump it in garbage!
