Bangladesh gets huge response from Canada garment expo

The quality Produced in Pakistan is far far greater than over there but the prices are not matched due to cheap child labor in Bangladesh

If costs can be reduced, bangaldeshi Cotton exporters will be facing genocide
Not a valid argument. If the quality offered by BD wasn't good than the big name names like JC Penny, Walmart Zara etc etc would never buyer their product.

Secondly make yourself competative in the global market. Labour is only a part in the production there are several other components involved in.

Lastly, remember that BD buyer cotton from Uzbekistan have it shipped to Chittagong only than to start working on it. But you cotton produce right here in Pakistan.

Majority(about half of total imported) of the cotton comes from India.Pakistan is probably the second largest source.

Most of our garments workers are women but all of them are adult.

Absolutely - Bangladesh apparel factories are the most well organized and heavily audited workplaces outside of the EU and US. There are NO underage laborers in our garments factories. It had a possibility of happening in sweatshops employing under say 50 workers, but those don't even exist locally, they exist mostly in India and Pakistan. You can make butthurt comments, but at least make informed and truthful ones...ask first.

Because of Rana Plaza - apparel factories locally have world class construction standards (civil, electrical etc.), effluent measures and most importantly - worker safety standards (approaching EU and US standards in almost all case) and are subject to quarterly audits by big four global accounting firms and their contractors. This is reported to large EU and US apparel buyers on a regular basis. I don't believe any of this exists in either India or Pakistan to my knowledge. But fact is, none of these countries want to go the apparel route and the factories in these countries are much smaller on average.

Just to give you guys an example, EU inspectors inspect not only electrical wiring distribution systems in all export-oriented factories but use ultrasonic viewers to check proper structural rod placement in concrete columns and girders. There are routine training sessions on fire/earthquake safety exit plans compliant to EU ISO ISO/TC 92/SC 4 and TC108 standards as well as US NFPA codes.

We must retrive our maket lost to BD. I'm of the view despite that it is not a cotton growing country if they have sucked away business from Pakistan and are successfully keeping it than make no mistake that we will have to do a hell lot of work to get back those customers. MOC & TDAP wake up..

Where are the Pakistani exporters? Are they sleeping? The power outage problem is over the exchange rate has also been adjusted law and order situation is improved. But the situation is still the same.

I tell you something wherever contacted for boosting exports they give a long list of demands to the Govt asking for all sort of facilities but than they dont deliver. Entrepreneur ship is what we are lacking.

Brother I have met some of the Pakistani garments factory representatives in shows at Frankfurt. Took it upon myself to talk to several of them.

Other than the usual pleasantries - I was a bit saddened and disappointed that they did not have the burning urge to take their product and their marketing to the next level. Or any long term plans.

What I saw was (to me) mostly 'chalta hai attitude'.

OMG, nothing is more alarming than your people lacking enterpruner ship. Making matter worst is the availability of hefty and easy returns in the property sector.

This people of this country badly needs a change in their mind set. MADE IN PAKISTAN must be the slogan. It would not only boost exports but replace imports with the locally manufactured goods.
