Live grill restaurant opens at Dhanmondi

The city's newest restaurant Absolute BBQ BD has brought up a unique concept to the most authentic live grill - all you can eat- right on your table along with multi-cuisine dishes at the buffet station--Eat~Grill~Repeat.

It combines all you can eat with do the barbecuing yourself.

Absolute BBQ, opened at Dhanmondi in the city in July is presenting over-the-table live grill barbecuing.

Diners have their table transformed, with a grill placed in the centre and a side of freshly-made bastings and sauces. Then staff members come around with cooked lamb, beef, chicken, fish and vegetables.

Once placed on the grill, diners can taste the meat and vegetables in the way they like and use dipping sauces to create incredible combination of flavours.

They are accompanied by buffet dinner or lunch such as soup, Cajun-spiced potato, crispy corn, salads, fries and many more items.

Another item that you may want to try out is their buffet display like--Garlic Fried Rice with Shrimp. Unlike the other rice item, this one has numerous small shrimps, so much so that you will be able to savour them on almost every morsel.

If you are a burger fan,BBQ's Sous-vide Chicken Burger is a must-have.

Then comes dessert - a tasting platter of sweet treats is for everyone to enjoy.

Six partners - Waliullah Bakul, Sk Zakir, Redwan Farid Sami, Md Arifur Rahman, Amir Hossain Khokan and Arefin Spursho - started this new-concept-restaurant Absolute BBQ at Dhanmondi.

Arefin Spursho, CEO of the restaurant, said they wanted to bring something new to Dhanmondi because it's a posh-area in the city with a long history. "It's a celebration of barbecue cuisine and we offer food without boundaries," he said. "Our chefs create an array of food with lovely flavours, cooked in a secret recipe, then served on a live-grill." But it is a very unique concept for our country's food lovers.

"We want to welcome Dhanmondi residents on a barbecue journey."

"Sugar cane juice and another exceptional dessert item kulfi are ones that you can get only in our restaurant," Arefin Spursho added. The best part is, it is unlimited.

They hosted Sawasdee Thai Festival in July where diners were able to enjoy Thai delicacies.

All you can eat is Tk 800 per person during lunch and Tk 1200 per person during dinner.

They plan to set up their outlet at Gulshan area of the city as well as in Chittagong.

Open seven days a week from 11.30am until late at 'Absolute BBQ restaurant' is at Ahmed and Kazi Tower, Level 7, Dhanmondi, Road no. 2.

Other than its sheer deliciousness, Spursho also claims that it is a healthy one too. "We cook it in low temperature, for a long time, in a special way and using a lot of herbs. Most of the fat gets removed in the process," he informed.

In recent times, Thai cuisine has become quite popular among the local food lovers. Apart from other cuisines, this has a strong blend of texture, taste and flavour, which makes it so popular.

This is possibly one of the reasons, there are a good number of Thai restaurants that has come up in the city to saliate our tastebuds. Krua Thai is the latest addition in this regard. The term means Thai Kitchen. It opened this June, offering an array of Thai only cuisine for the food lovers of Dhaka.

The menu is a treat to be savoured. It has a wide choice offering appetizers, soups and salads made of different types of fish, chicken, beef, and seafood. They have rice and noodles as the main accompaniments. There are the regular Tom Yum soups, clear seafood soup with coconut milk and so on. Appetizers come in a mix and match combination with Fish Cake, Dumplings and Mixed Platters to name a few. Prawns, squids and crabs are an integral part of a Thai menu. This is no exception here. There is a spread of delicious prawns, squid, and crab dishes in Krua Thai. These include Prawn & Squid in white chili paste, Prawn Squid in Yellow Curry, Spicy Seafood, Sweet and Sour Prawn, Black Pepper Crab and Chili Crab. Chicken dishes include Chicken Cashew nut, Chicken Ginger, Chicken Red and Green Curry, etc. there is also Duck (Red Curry, Steamed Duck with Soy Sauce). There are a few grilled barbecue dishes like Grilled Squid, Grilled Chicken. For vegetarians, one can choose from Mixed Vegetables, Stir Fried Morning Glory, Vegetable Green Curry and so on.

Thirst quenchers include juices, beverages, mocktails, tea, coffee. For desserts, one can opt for the very typical Thai dessert: Sticky Rice with Mango and Ice-cream Coconut Sticky, Ice with Mamuang. The ice-cream segment is pretty cool and sweet with a number of ice-creams with multibases (layers), sorbets and typical vanilla scoops.

The prime feature of the place is its location. It is simply at a beauty spot on the Hatirjheel thoroughfare. Located next to the newly-constructed amphi-theatre and neighbourhood Aarong_ it could not have a better view. Rather it can boast of being the most idyllic place for a ground floor restaurant. Usually restaurants at top floors of high rises offer a panoramic view of the skyline. This is possibly the only ground floor restaurant in Dhaka that offers a fest to the sight too. One can nibble and relish the food while having a beautiful view of the jheel skirted with greenery manicured tree lines coupled with concrete structures at the other side of the jheel. The regular traffic is an eye sore at times but the large glass French windows is a wonderful showcase for the surrounding duo of water and foliage.

Krua Thai is open during lunch (12 noon-4 pm) and dinner (6.30 pm-10.30 pm). Speciality chefs have been flown in from Thailand. The entire place is halved into two separate dining halls, one curving into a semi circle, the other being a typical square and straight living hall. Krua Thai offers take away meals too and will soon add outside catering to their services.

Along with their beautiful surrounding and stylish dining areas, there is also a cute wait area for those who are queued up for a lunch or dinner. This is just outside the main restaurant with shrubs, plants and a mesmerising small fountain to make the waiting hours less boring. So Dhaka's new dining destination, which is a visual and a gastronomical treat- Krua Thai awaits its valued customers.

Tony Roma’s Continues Strong Growth in Asia with First Restaurant in Bangladesh

Romacorp, Inc., the parent company of Tony Roma’s, announces the opening of its newest restaurant, located in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the country’s capital and largest city. This new restaurant in Bangladesh is the first Tony Roma’s restaurant in Southern Asia for Romacorp, Inc., and the first Tony Roma’s for its franchisee, Food Chain Asia Limited, a master franchisee for India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Sbarro opens 8 new branches

New locations include: Lalbagh, Bailey Road, Banani, Khilgaon, Dhanmondi, Uttara, Mohammadpur and Mirpur

New York-based pizzeria Sbarro has opened its eight new branches in the city on Thursday after concluding their unique PR campaign with a gala event at The Westin in the city. The event was attended by prominent figures in the industry, celebrities and various media outlets. They said for the first time ever the company has taken the challenge to simultaneously open multiple branches at prime locations of the city.

The launching was preceded by a city-wide QR Code Campaign, where all participants were given prizes and one lucky winner received a round trip ticket to New York. Before launching the outlets, Sbarro intended to reach out to more customers and make people aware of their massive, city-wide launch of 8 stores in October through the QR Campaign.

Sbarro QR Codes were pasted on the walls of different areas all over Dhaka City. Anyone who scans the QR Code, will win flat discounts on their next purchase from Sbarro, a mobile phone OR a Dhaka to New York return airplane ticket.

A few days later, hundreds of Sbarro employees took to the streets to take down all the posters, showing that Sbarro cares about the environment and is a socially responsible company. The lucky winner of the round trip ticket to New York is Wasim Akram, a Junior Office of the Foreign Trade Division at Pubali Bank Limited. He is ecstatic about winning such an amazing prize.
