Pakistan likely to host B'desh next year
Karachi: Pakistan is confident of hosting Bangladesh in what will be a ground-breaking home series next year after its cricket chief had a fruitful meeting with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials in Dhaka.
Ijaz Butt, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, met top Bangladesh cricket officials in Dhaka on the sidelines of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting and discussed the possibility of Bangladesh visiting Pakistan in 2011.
Butt said on Wednesday that the BCB has shown its willingness on sending a Bangladesh team to Pakistan for a full series.
"Bangladesh has agreed to tour Pakistan and we hope that the series will rake place here soon," said Butt.
Pakistan has become a no-go zone for international sports-persons after Sri Lanka's cricket team was ambushed by terrorists in Lahore in March 2009. The attack left several people, mostly policemen, dead while a number of Sri Lankan cricketers and team officials were injured.
PCB officials have since then been making futile efforts to resume international cricket in Pakistan.
Butt is hopeful that Bangladesh will help break the ice by visiting Pakistan soon.
The PCB chief rejected the impression that relations between the PCB and the BCB were strained after Pakistan refused to send its team to Bangladesh on security grounds.
"There have been a few issues between us, but our relations are fine," he said.
Relations between the two boards touched rock bottom in early 2009 when Bangladesh refused to host Pakistan for a series of five One-day Internationals and two Twenty20 matches in March.
Despite requests from the PCB, the tour was eventually called off by the BCB on government advice a day after the terrorist attack in Lahore.
At that time the BCB said that its government refused to give it clearance for the series. However, the general impression in Pakistan was that the BCB was influenced by the Indian cricket board in its decision to cancel the series.

Hey guys what do you think about BD's performance in upcoming World Cup?
I really think that BD will be a dark horse.
Nowadays BD has a capability to take down stronger opponents like New Zealand.
I guess BD will reach Semis in WC2011.

Cricket seems to be the most unpredictible sport. So, no one can say anything for sure. I wish your prediction comes true that BD will reach semi-final in the WCC. There is no doubt BD performance is coming up.
This game has spread throughout the country's young generation and I can see tall players with better physical strength and performance are joining the national team. We need to play more and more games against other strong teams before WC is held. Pakistan and India are two such teams. I welcome Pakistani invitation of BD team to play a full series in 2011.

Should be a great series as Bangladesh and Pakistan have improved in lot of various aspects of the game....
However, i believe PCB will take good security measures as i dont want the Sri Lankan team incident to repeat again....no offence, just mentioning what i feel...

The World Cup road show ‘Catch Bangladesh Catch’ began marching on Monday with a view to spreading the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 spirit and to stirring the imagination in the entire country.
With Bangladesh becoming an ICC Cricket World Cup hosts for the first time, the cricket loving millions of this country will get a feel of this mega event through this road show which will cover all 64 districts.
It is an initiative of the Local Organising Committee 2011, assisted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the Dhaka District Sports Association.
The rally started from the National Eidgah gate and stopped at the Paltan Maidan for a formal inauguration ceremony.
Among the dignitaries, who participated in the rally, were the state minister for youth and sports, Ahad Ali Sarkar, who was the chief guest, special guests Zahid Ahsan Russell, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on youth and sports ministry, and BCB president AHM Mustafa Kamal.
Former national opener Javed Omer and pacer Mohammad Sharif graced the programme as celebrity guests.
The assembled audience was then treated
to a ‘Catch the Ball’ competition and the winners were presented with
ICC CWC 2011 merchandise.
Popular band group ‘Lalon’ then entertained the crowd with their popular numbers. The ‘Catch Bangladesh Catch’ caravan will hit the road today on two routes from Dhaka to Rajshahi and Brahmanbaria.

Standing in queues in front of different branches of City and Agrani banks where people started lining up since Saturday, the wait came to an end lastly at 10:00am Sunday.
A Sunday morning visit through the city gave Star Online an evidence of long queues, some more than one kilometre.
Several outlets including those at Bangabandhu Avenue, Mouchak, Darus Salam and Mirpur area of the city saw clashes.
A photographer of Daily Kaler Kontho was injured in front of a ticket-selling centre at Dhanmondi-2 during a clash between police and the cricket fans.
Earlier, hundreds of cricket-lovers thronged some 80 ticket outlets in the city from Saturday to secure tickets for the World Cup 2011.
At around 5:00pm Saturday, roughly 16 hours before opening the Mirpur-1 branch of City Bank, the queue had gone up to around 3,000 people. Most of the ticket seekers were from the nearby areas but there were some from other districts, where the ticket allocations are scarcer than the capital.
But in all practicality, no more than 480 tickets can be sold on a day from a single booth, City Bank said on Friday.
A total of 15,127 tickets will be available for public consumption but it was not clear from where the tickets for the dignitaries will come from.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has started selling of tickets through two designated banks--City Bank and Agrani Bank.
Bangladesh is one of the co-hosts of the 2011 World Cup Cricket and will host eight matches including two quarterfinals at home.
The opening ceremony of the tournament will take place at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on February 17.
