Bangladesh can try Pakistan army for 1971 genocide: Law minister

BD GDP grew 7.1% last fiscal and set to be better this fiscal. Take out the 1% population growth
rate and GDP/ capita is growing at 6% a year.

By contrast, Pakistan managed only 3.5% GDP/capita in the 1980s.

So which economy is prospering now then?

We are still a much more geo-strategically important country. Russia may only have the GDP of a few US States at most, but can still take America to the cleaners. GDP means something, but not everything. There are many more considerations when assessing a country's importance. Pakistan will always have geo-strategic value as does Afghanistan to be honest. Even Afghanistan is more important than Bangladesh. You were much more important as East Pakistan. Now you are almost a vassal State of India. No offence. Apologies in advance for any hurt feeling etc.

only list of 195 means Bangladeshi claims of genocide are false.
but who will try those multi people for genocide and not to forget the mob who started all war by killing 250 non Bengali's in Chittagong . I think the whole Bangladeshi nation can be put under trial for war crimes and treachery along with terrorism.

You know how it goes: it's victor's justice that prevails; and they often write the history too.

Neverthless, of all the crazy claims being made by Hasina's government, this issue of 195 Pakistanis is legitimate. They should've have faced trial, but they never did. Doubt this issue will go anywhere but to serve Hasina's interests. As far as I'm concerned, the events of 1971 have moved into the realm of history.

no doubt this is indian lobby to spread hates among nations against pak. this is a time to differentiate between enemy & friends once for always. no need to dig our efforts in useless matters.
infect we should encourage Bangladesh to completely hand over their soils to india then they will soon realize the consequences

Nonsense. India has nothing do with Bangladesh spreading hate against Pakistan. This is all Bangladesh's doing. The reasons are manifold: from legitimate gripes with events leading up to independence to the cynical idea that Bangladesh is just currying favor with India. It's all politics.

It seems govt and people of BD have nothing else to talk about but 1971 . Never seen people with so much inferiority complex and obsession .

Who is really obsessed with events of 1971? Bangladesh or Pakistan? I think it's pretty much even. Whenever key anniversaries there is a plethora of articles published in the media on PDF about it, some posted by Bangaldesh, but just as many as Pakistan. It's hard to ignore the events of 1971 given how the events are key to the histories of both nations.

and what about indian soldiers..

Law Minister Anisul Huq has said that Bangladesh can now try the 195 war criminals of Pakistani army who were listed during the agreement after the 1971 war of independence, but Pakistan did not put them on trial.

The minister said that he could now pursue to bring them back to face the trial.

Speaking at a seminar on Tuesday, he said Bangladesh can try them now as Pakistan has breached the agreement.

Pakistan, India and Bangladesh signed a tripartite agreement under which those war criminals were handed over to Pakistan.

“In this agreement, a condition was tagged that there were people who wanted to go to Pakistan, and Pakistan was under an obligation to receive them. But Pakistan did not live up to its commitment,” Huq said, referring to the stranded Pakistanis who could not go back to their country.

“So, there’s been a breach of the agreement, and we shouldn’t abide by that agreement. We can now try the 195 war criminals of Pakistani army for violating the deal.”

The foreign ministry’s think-tank Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organised the seminar commemorating the first-ever ‘Genocide Day’.

For the first time this year, Bangladesh nationally observed Mar 25 as Genocide Day commemorating those killed by the Pakistani occupation forces on that night in 1971. Bangladesh is also lobbying in the UN for the global recognition of the Day.

On that night in 1971, the Pakistan Army launched 'Operation Searchlight', a brutal and barbaric military assault on an unsuspecting population to crush the Bengali movement for rights and justice that had turned to a fight for freedom in the face of persistent denials.

After nine months of the bloody war, Bangladesh emerged as an independent nation on the world map on Dec 16. Over three million people were killed and a quarter of a million women and young girls were dishonoured.

The law minister said the announcement of Mar 25 as the Genocide Day had created a scope for Bangladesh to go to the International Criminal Court to force Pakistan to hand over the 195 Pakistani war criminals.

“Yes, some of them have already died, but many are still alive. We should make a very strong claim for them. I can tell you, as the law minister, I’ll put forward the case before the Cabinet, and we’ll peruse it to bring back those criminals,” he asserted.

Even with 7% growth your GDP is 200B and Pakistan's is 280B with ONLY 4.7% growth. By 2020 Pakistan's GDP is expected to be close to 350B while Bangladesh's will be close to 250B so happy catching. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

Technically they are correct,if pakistan had agreed they should have put them on trial. Whether bangladesh has wherewithal to bring pakistan to the court or enforce it is a different question.

My dear don't be stupid. I have been to Dhaka, Syhlet, modipur forest.....I could go on but you get my drift. Come to Pakistan you will be shocked.
Now regarding growth rates.....it doesn't give a true picture. Example a man with a million pounds grows 5% therefore he makes £50000
Another man with 10000 grows a 100% he only makes 10000.
Get my drift.
Hassina is a slave of the Hindus and don't be fooled by it.
You Bengalis have issues with Pakistanis but you dont realise that Bhutto and mujibur rahman destroyed a country for personal gains and innocent died. If they were good people why then did one get hung and the other got shot by his own troops. Allah is a great equaliser. People are like sheep easily led by even a stupid sheepdog.

My friend stop doing politics if u gonna try US we will try Daddy Mujeeb over treason so forgive and forget is best policy find something else to fool ur ppl.

This all is happening with the instruction from New Delhi... BD is becoming the slave territory of India...

Bangladeshis will never move on from 1971. Whether the Awami League or BNP is in power, there is little difference on this "issue". The country has been brainwashing itself since 1971.

Best to cut our ties permanently with their nonsense. There is nothing to be gained from it, and there never will be.

Pakistan should break all ties with Bangladesh there is no need for us to unilaterally support the dead 1974 pact, we don'tneed to allow any Pakistani selfish jerk to trade with the banglas there or allow theres to come here. Break the ties and then welcome all these developments, Pakistan also should reopen the case of the missing, dead, raped and the arson, of Bengalis, non-Bengalis in Bangladesh post-1972. All these issues are well documented so Pakistan has a strong case. These beggardeshis will have to loan the money to spend on international courts, from foreign donors also.

And thats the reason why Bangladesh showed interest in JF-17 thunder. I think next in trials list are ex-soldiers who fought for Pakistan.
Well now no politician from Pakistan will fight for Pakistan, as everybody know that nobody will stand for them. But if these trials take place, and govt of Pakistan does nothing, then no soldier in future will fight for Pakistan either.
So Pakistan must decide now whether to sell or save our nation.
