Bangladesh is going to build a cantonment named after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on a shoal in the coastal district of Patuakhali on the bank of the Payra River.

The government will fund around Tk 17 billion project to set up the cantonment on a 1,532-acre land on the shoal that rose after 1975.

The proposal on setting up the cantonment would be placed at Tuesday's meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council or ECNEC, a Panning Commission official with knowledge of the matter told bdnews24.com on Monday.

According to the proposal, the project is part of the government's Forces Goal 2030, a long-term modernisation scheme for Bangladesh Armed Forces.

It says the project mainly aims to add the coastal areas to the national defence system.

Prime Minister Hasina, in charge of the defence ministry, gave the green light to the project in 2014.

. . . .
When is Putin due to visit.... one assumes BAF will give go ahead for something at that time

.
Sure, as long we buy fighters to fill those air bases and not play football in the runway.
We have more air force base than 4th generation fighter aircraft !!

Seems like BAF will evaluate the 4++ generation fighter aircraft for eternity. We are hearing this evaluation thing for at least 5 years now.

The blame is solely upon BAF Chiefs IMO. Hasina might be the defence minister but she knows jack about it. All procurement/development requests come from the respective Chiefs and she just okays it.

Look at all the Naval Chiefs. These are men with visions and who is doing work. Back when BAF commenced evaluating those 4++ fighters, we could not even imagine that we would build our own AshW and ASW ships locally. Now that is being fulfilled + the frigate program is to be launched.. not to mention the sub purchases. Who would have thought it would come to this, when navy is to be our weakest section?

The Army Chiefs have done a okay job too. The artillery program, local productions at BoF, tank evaluations, raising infantry divisions, future soldiers program etc. It makes sense that BA is slow as it is the largest section of the Armed Forces. In spite of that, they have progressed decently.

But what has exactly the BAF Chiefs done? This clearly shows that BAF had no vision since 2001 when the MiGs were purchased. Only when you have a vision, it gets carried down by the years. The only thing that comes to mind is the FM-90 batteries. Apart from that, absolutely zero contributions.

The BAF senior leadership needs to be replaced with strategic thinkers. Without a strong BAF, the BA and BN cannot do their jobs effectively.

Correct. I wonder what is up with the BAF leadership. The Chiefs dont seem to be dumb people to me personally. They need to look for other sources too. If Russia is re-negotiating the offer, then BAF also need to diversify the search in case the deal doesn't come through.

The Chief apparently went to Turkey for 5 day visit. Hopefully he does something about the T-129 attack helos instead of munching durum kebap.
