The Bangladesh Army is set to purchase European made medium range air defence radar systems after having shortlisted products from Germany, France and Italy.
The Bangladesh Army has also shortlisted RBS-70 Mk II VSHORADS from Sweden in a previous tender to..........................
The Bangladesh Army is purchasing mobile air defence radar of its own from Europe.
Just two systems can cover the airspace of entire Bangladesh.
These advanced radars have a maximum detection range of 250 km. Some of them have special features that enable them to act as Weapon Locating Radar.
They have excellent up time, reliability and strong resistance against jamming.
Bangladesh Army already uses air defence radars of its own but those are very old and became obsolete. Now with new GDF anti-aircraft, RBS-70 VSROADS and some new MRSAM they will use these radars to monitor Indian and Burmese aircraft operations on the border.
All three forces have their own air defence networks to ensure a high level of redundancy and alertness.
Thales and Leonardo are doing very well these days in Bangladesh after back to back successes on supplying air defence radars to BAF and BN. Now they are set to provide the Army with such advance systems.
The gradual Westernisation of Bangladeshi forces will ensure our forces have full NATO compatibility. I will not be surprised if BOF switches to 5.56mm NATO calibre small arms too.
