Bangladesh Army raises new infantry division

@ExtraOdinary & @Mike_Brando

India and Bangladesh are two different entities. Maybe right now we are not enemy and surely it's been 40 years since our independence and we didn't have to go on a war. But friendship between two countries is not permanent and who can tell that we wouldn't declare war on each other within next 80 years? The EU countries have mostly similar cultures, values and goals to each other and they are well integrated in the Union. In spite of that none of them disbanded their Armed Forces or stopped modernizing their forces.

I for one am happy you guys are modernising fast, dont take my comment the wrong way.

Forgot about 1971?

they basically took all our assets for that. paid mercenaries. you wanna be a friend to them? go ahead but remember that india is the reason of all the crap in our country. Infact after thisAl term, if anyone does owe, that would be bharat to us.

Read somewhere they've developed or in the process of developing the mbt-3000, might want to have closer look at that too.

MBT-3000s are very heavy at 52 ton, not good for moving into enemy territory around BD. Even crossing the NW border with a heavy tank like this is almost impossible. This tank is good for Pakistan-India border.

Even, to my knowledge, MBT-2000 at 40 ton is also a heavy tank, certainly not good in areas other than cross-border action in our NW.

If friends do not cooperate, we will have to be enemies. Regrettable! Either way, doesn't matter. Your "army" won't last.

No, we are friendly with India in diplomatic and trade terms. But, in a miltary conflict this will be gone. We may choose to remain neutral, but not in case of an India-China conflict.

Siding with China is inevitable, our arsenal is full of Chinese weapons. These weapons are not to fight against China, I think you understand that.

1) Our neighboring regions to the north and the east are situated at higher elevations than those of ours. In case of troop movements the enemy would be in an advantageous position as they would have to 'descend' where we would have to 'ascend'. The enemy would simply manoeuver through their own territory (as opposed to an enemy territory) and a less difficult terrain of ours. Once they are done with that they are in the vast plains of BD. If I remember well during the WW2 on the western front Germans launched an offensive on France through the mountaneous territory of Ardennes (Belgium). The French were caught off-guard and consequently completely annihilated.

2) We can't afford a war in our small piece of land with practically nowhere to retreat and definitely we would be outnumbered by an enemy with superior materiel. So in case we want to survive we would have to carry the war to the enemy territory and force the enemy on the defensive.

3) Both India and Myanmar have Mountain Divisions who are skilled at mountain warfare. We don't have enough mountaineous regions to properly train a troop of the size of a division or for them to carry out exercises. The US Army now engaged in Afghanistan consists mainly of Airborne troops (First it was 82nd Airborne and then 101st Airborne).

1) However, when the enemy infantry troops descend to our NE they will not find a vast plane land lying ahead of them. They will encounter huge Haor areas, where only a riverine infantry may move even when it is not wet season. Enemy infantry movements will be limited to narrow strips of dry lands around the Haors. So, enemy troops may not find it advantageous in the Sylhet/Mymensingh zone although the land is lower than the surrounding enemy mountains.

2) Yes, the best way is to enter enemy territory as it is the best defense.

3) BD infantry is not supposed to train in the high mountains like the Himalaya. There are small mountains in BD not very high with the highest point being 3,000 ft near the Burmese border. These can be used for a limited training.

Most difficult part of a mountain training is to understand the terrain and know ones' own position in the mountains. I do not think, training with GPS apparatus is a better substitute than the understanding of the location with the sixth sense.

add these as reserves......
61 battalions BGB
150,000 police (including 11 armed police battalions & 12 battalions RAB)
5-6 other elite special battalions police (SPBn, SWAT)
180,000 armed Ansars
did I miss others?

Lol anyways..any idea regarding the figure of our reserves? Last i knew, without credible evidence, it was at around 200,000.

Cheers!!!

Push through Bangladesh....LOL....:laughcry:....you haven't got that many men available. You'd need at least 800000 to do that, the current standing army of Bangladesh is over 300000 not counting the reserve, and at times of war that would swell to over 1m. So if china decides to invade AP an the NE your gonna start a war with BD....:cuckoo:...with what, how long do you think it's gonna take your guys to fight its way through hostile densely populated country like BD?

Bold part: Fighting is in our blood. Our Police in Razarbag HQ and other districts fought against the tanks and machine guns of PA troops in 1971 with only simple .303 rifles. Our Ansars fought with bamboo stick in 1971.

564 Ansars were killed in that war in frontal battles against the PA troops because only bravery cannot win a war or save lives.

Today our Ansars and VDP have a combined manpower of more than 800,000 men/women who are not as good as military, but they can operate machine guns, sub-machine guns and rifles. Count our Police force along with these fighters. Then there are the BDR troops the name of which makes IA troops to run away from the battle fields.

You are right about a million people with arms training in BD.

well, I knew that Sylhet area was under the command of a commando brigade HQ..... there was no other area command in Sylhet..... thats why I asked.....
you can correct me if I was wrong.....

What do you mean? There's one army commando training centre in Sylhet where both basic and advanced commando training are provided...what's commando brigade?

and paid them? done deal. now back to current affairs. India's action are worse than burmese therefore they are a bigger threat to us and must be seen as enemies

Burmese have no action against us, we have only one enemy and that's india. And regarding any small issue from Burmese part you need to investigate 1st what happened on the background for that event. During 91 event it happened just after their current president visited Burma, during 2008 it's the same and last year it happened after their PM visited their. The Burmese junta takes money from one party shows some tameness to its master then. Other than this Burma with its own brain doesn't do anything. Still, in most cases anything happening there in Burma it's their internal business. In BD Military forum one army officer who was in the strike force preparing for attacking Burma in 91 described whole scenario in detail. US Pacific commander that time stayed in a hotel in Chittagong for a week (US and Saudi admins' decision). According to that officer that US general was there to show india that US was on Bangladesh side (then india was not ally of US). He believed that Burma then attacked Bangladeshi outpost on indian push.

MBT-2000 is 46 t (51 short tons) Al-Khalid tank - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia .

Pan Asia military dominance, and able to hit any part of the earth under 3 hours.

Good catch..there's something in skull...a little correction, it'd be any part of india :) .

Reserve has variance.....what you meant by 200000? The retired armed forces personnel reserve is at 65000, BNCC is probably around 1 million (forgot the exact figure) and registered Ansar-VDP number is almost 6 million.

US actually has been on Bangladesh's side forever. Most of their visits usually don't get noted so i am not surprised.

All the number you mentioned are serving not reserve. Reserve personnel are for invoking during war crisis. And BGB and regular Ansar members will not remain paramilitary then, they'll directly come under armed forces command thus adding to them. This is what military guys told me.
