  This is the first time in recent decades that Bangladesh has made public the number of its citizens who had lived “illegally” in India.
  Nearly 1,000 Bangladesh nationals were detained in Bangladesh in 2019 for living in India “illegally”, and the Bangladesh government has initiated legal proceedings against them, Major-General Shafeenul Islam, Director-General of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), said in Dhaka on Thursday.
  
  This is the first time in recent decades that Bangladesh has made public the number of its citizens who had lived “illegally” in India.
  
  The announcement came following the talks between the Directors-General of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh in New Delhi from December 25 to 30, 2019.
  
  Nine hundred and ninety-nine Bangladesh nationals — 135 children, 258 women and 606 men — were detained, Major-General Islam said at a press conference. And 312 of them were arrested in November and 133 in December. Officials said they were arrested on the border, while going to India or returning home. Their identities were ascertained and legal proceedings initiated “as per law for illegally entering and staying” in another country. Those arrested were either kept in custody or freed on bail.
  
  Dhaka’s assurance
  A couple of weeks ago, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s foreign policy adviser Gowher Rizvi said in Kolkata that Bangladesh would take its citizens back if they were illegally staying in India. “But it has to be proved that the person is a Bangladesh citizen,” he had said.
  
  Bangladesh also submitted a list of 96 Indians “illegally” staying in Bangladesh. Of them, 62 were handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) and the rest were detained. Legal proceedings were opened against them. At least 35 Bangladesh nationals have been killed in border firing, Major-General Islam said.

No, it is not. We never ruled out that some Bangladeshi lives illegally in India. This is also true for Indians who live illegally in Bangladesh. This type of things happen between any two countries in the world who share long border. But the problem is hindutva extremist's wild propaganda of 10/20/30/40/50/60/80 million illegal Bangladeshi in India without any evidence. This 999 case in the last one year rightfully indicate that the magnitude of illegal migration from Bangladesh to India is quite low. If it were really 20-30 million as per the sanghi propaganda then we would be seeing millions of people trying to enter Bangladesh after this turmoil and crackdown, not few hundreds. Indian police also should be arresting thousands, not a few dozen illegal Bangladeshi in sting operations.

Indians falsely believe the migrant population from other states as 'illegal Bangladeshi'. India is a country where each state has different culture, language and people feel alien when they move from one state to another. No other country has this level of diversity and sanghi extremists are using it to whip up their religious hatred and xenophobia.

There is no strategic partnership between Bangladesh and India. We had strategic partnership with China under which we co-operate in defence sector. Recently we have sigh deal with US which will allow us to buy advanced weapon from US and thus a strategic partnership will grow. While we had never such deal with India and I am confident it will not happen in future either. If India is Bangladesh's strategic partner then why it does not buy even a single bullet from India? But every kind of weapon from china which you consider adversary. This obviously shows, there is no strategic partnership between Bangladesh and India.


It is true,Sheikh Hasina helped India in security matters, but this help was also beneficial for Bangladesh, as we do not want to be a place where foreign insurgent operate and it also helped us to resolve boundary dispute largely in our favor. Sheikh Hasina was the best you got in Bangladesh and you have managed to pissed her. You will never get anyone in Bangladesh more friendlier then her. Her deep personal gratitude towards Gandhi family is one of the main factor why she shown such friendliness to India. Even Sheikh Mujib was not this friendly with India. Sheikh Mujib was deeply suspicious about India. His first demand after returning from West Pakistan jail in January 1972 to India was to withdraw it's troops within 3 months. He joined Lahore OIC summit to much displeasure of India. He invited and hosted Pakistan president ZA Bhutto to Bangladesh in 1974.

We are already taking back who had gone to India illegally. We have already took one thousand. May be another few thousands illegal Bangladeshi remain in India who will be taken back at due process. But you should reciprocate this by taking back illegal Indians in Bangladesh also. Not only Bangladesh, you should take back illegal Indian from all other countries if you have any shame or dignity. Indians are known to be the biggest illegal migrant group in the world. Indians also known as biggest fraudster and scam artist in the world.
