ভাল, বাংলাদেশে সুষ্ঠ নির্বাচনের জন্য মার্কিন কংগ্রেসম্যানরা উদ্বিগ্ন। আজ তাঁদের আন্তরিক ধন্যবাদ জানাচ্ছি। তাঁরা প্রস্তাব করেছেন:

১. জাতিসংঘের মানবাধিকার কাউন্সিলে বাংলাদেশের সদস্যপদ অবিলম্বে স্থগিত করার জন্য ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হোক। আমরা একমত। তাঁর চান ফ্যাসিস্ট সরকারের আমলে বিভিন্ন অপরাধমূলক কার্যকলাপের বিরুদ্ধে নিরপেক্ষ এবং স্বচ্ছ তদন্তের ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হোক। আলবৎ । তবে আমরা শুধু সাংবাদিক ও রাজনৈতিক প্রতিপক্ষ নয় -- সকল ভিকটিমদের সম্পর্কে নিরপেক্ষ তদন্ত এবং অপরাধীদের শাস্তি চাই। শুধু তাই নয়, মানবতার বিরুদ্ধে অপরাধের জন্য আন্তর্জাতিক আদালতে ক্রিমিনালদের বিচার ও শাস্তি দাবি করি।

২. জাতিসংঘ শান্তিরক্ষা কার্যক্রমে অস্থায়ীভাবে বাংলাদেশের র‌্যাপিড অ্যাকশন ব্যাটালিয়ন (র‌্যাব) সদস্যদের মোতায়েন বন্ধ রাখার প্রস্তাব দেওয়া হয়েছে। বিশ্বের মানবাধিকার কর্মীরা তা যথেষ্ট মনে করেন না। আমরা আশা করি মানবাধিকার সংস্থাগুলোর প্রস্তাব অনুযায়ি মার্কিন কংগ্রেস এই ধরনের বাহিনী বিলুপ্ত করারও প্রস্তাব দেবে।

৩. জাতিসংঘের অধীনে নির্বাচন করবার প্রস্তাব দেওয়া হয়েছে। এই প্রস্তাবটি গভীর ভাবে পর্যালোচনার দাবি রাখে। এর অর্থ আসল কী সে সম্পর্কে সকলের মতামত জানা ও বোঝা দরকার। তাই কি কি হতে পারে তার ধারণা দিচ্ছি। আপনিও দিতে পারেন। তবে আবেগী হবেন না, উত্তেজিত হবেন না, নিজেদের ভবিষ্যৎ ভেবে ঠান্ডা মাথায় ভাবনাচিন্তা করে উত্তর দেবেন। আমরা খুবই কঠিন সময় অতিক্রম করছি।

-- ক. জাতিসংঘের অধীনে নির্বাচনের প্রস্তাব বাংলাদেশের জনগণের সার্বভৌমত্বের ওপর সরাসরি হস্তক্ষেপ। বরং বাংলাদেশের জনগণের গণতন্ত্র কায়েমের লড়াইয়ের প্রতি যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সমর্থন আমরা আশা করি। ফ্যাসিস্ট শক্তি ও ফ্যাসিস্ট ব্যবস্থাকে জাতিসংঘের অধীনে নিরপেক্ষ নির্বাচনের মাধ্যমে টিকিয়ে রাখা আশা করে না।
জাতিসংঘের অধীনে নির্বাচনের তাৎপর্য অনেক বিস্তৃত ও গভীর। এতে প্রমাণ করা হয় যে সংঘাত ও সংঘর্ষ ছাড়া বাংলাদেশের জনগণ সুষ্ঠ নির্বাচন করতে অক্ষম। মানবাধিকার লংঘনকারী শক্তিকে ক্ষমতা থেকে উৎখাত করবার ক্ষমতা জনগণের নাই, শুধু তাই নয়, এমনকি এই দেশের জনগণ ফ্যাসিস্ট শক্তিকে ক্ষমতা থেকে উৎখাত করবার জন্য মার্কিন স্যাংকশানের দিকে চাতক পাখির মতো তাকিয়ে থাকে -- সার্বভৌম রাষ্ট্র হিশাবে আন্তর্জাতিক রাষ্ট্র ব্যবস্থায় টিকে থাকার কোন অধিকারও তাহলে এই জনগোষ্ঠির নাই। তাই না? নিজেদের সরকার নিজেরা নির্বাচিত করবার হেডম যে জনগোষ্ঠির নাই তাদের রাষ্ট্র হিশাবে টিকে থাকারও তাহলে অধিকার নাই। শুধু নির্বাচন কেন বরং জাতিসংঘই বাংলাদেশের সকল কায়কারবার চালাক। এটাই তো আসলে বলা হচ্ছে, তাই না? পরাশক্তি এই কাজটি করবার জন্যই ওৎ পেতে আছে।

-- খ. এই প্রস্তাব আদতে ফ্যাসিস্ট সরকার ও ফ্যাসিস্ট রাষ্ট্র ব্যবস্থা উৎখাত করে বাংলাদেশের জনগণের চলমান গণতন্ত্র কায়েমের লড়াই নস্যাৎ করার প্রস্তাব। অর্থাৎ আন্তর্জাতিক পরাশক্তি এক এগারো ঘটিয়ে বাংলাদেশের জনগণের সার্বভৌম ক্ষমতা হরণ করবার যে প্রক্রিয়া শুরু করেছিল তাকে চূড়ান্ত রূপ দেবার প্রস্তাব। শুধু নিজেদের শাসক নির্বাচনের ক্ষমতা নয়, বাংলাদেশ এরপর একে একে সকল ক্ষমতাই হারাবে।

-- গ. জনগণের গণতান্ত্রিক লড়াই-সংগ্রাম যখন ফ্যাসিস্ট শক্তিকে শায়েস্তা করবার দ্বারপ্রান্তে হাজির হয়েছে এবং বাংলাদেশকে নতুন ভাবে গঠন করবার পক্ষে জনমত তৈরি হয়েছে, গণতান্ত্রিক রাষ্ট্র কায়েমের অর্থ যখন জনগণের কাছে স্পষ্ট হচ্ছে দিন দিন -- তখন পরাশক্তি বাংলাদেশের জনগণের সার্বভৌম ক্ষমতা হরণ করতে চাইছে।
অর্থাৎ এই প্রস্তাব জনগণের বিজয় রুদ্ধ করার পরিকল্পনা।

-- ঘ. জাতিসংঘের অধীনে নির্বাচন দিল্লীর পছন্দের প্রস্তাব, তাই এই প্রস্তাব মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে আলোচিত হচ্ছে, যেন জাতিসংঘের ছত্রছায়ায় কার্যত দিল্লী বাংলাদেশের নির্বাচন পরিচালনা করতে পারে।

সবাই ভেবে দেখবেন। সবকিছুই দেখার সময় এখন।

So maybe it's time to throw out the fascist regime and create a national unity govt , head can be Dr Muhammad Yuonus , and after 5 to 10 years we can see a new Bangladesh with new political parties , where family dynasty will be gone!

Why is the USA so interested in free and fair elections in Bangladesh? So many countries are Monarchy and hold no elections but Usa is in bed with them, whats the big issue with Bangladesh, BAL is pro Indian government so it aligns with USA policy in the region.

It boils down to American wish to gain stronger foothold in BD, even if it is at the cost of India.

Though India and US cooperate on many issues. Indian and US interests do not completeley align in the Bay of Bengal.

I think the current US administration is following Delhi's diktat that Hasina cannot be trusted anymore.

Although I initially believed the US Dept. of state proclamation that it does not "see" Bangladesh with Delhi's "vision".

However it is becoming increasingly clear that Delhi wants a regime change to put in place a more Delhi-compliant govt.

And is indirectly working with US as proxy to affect that change.

I could be far off the mark, but that is my most recent take. It is a fluid situation, which is not only rather hard to track, but also difficult to predict the end result. Sorry if I confused other posters with my previous analysis.

If you may recall - Indians don't at all like the fact that all these China-financed projects are materializing in Bangladesh and it is making Bangladesh a formidable China-friendly adversary in its own back yard, economic adversary for now - but also maybe military adversary and "challenger" in the near future.

It cannot deal with China friendly Pakistan - and it does not want another challenger in its Eastern flank.

Anyway, USA doesn’t want a regime change and neither does India.

India and US are playing good cop and bad cop - in the hope of bullying Hasina away from China.

But Hasina doesn’t really care. She is going to retire within 5 years anyway. So she is immune from blackmail.

After Hasina, BAL will splinter as will BNP.

And Bangladesh will have a long stretch of WEAK coalition government.

It will be similar to the post Rajiv Ghandi assassination phase in India.

I expect by 2030 Bangladesh will have a secular nationalist government led by a strong leader. Probably someone currently in oxbridge or Ivy League.
