Kolkata: If morning shows the day, commuters were surely misled on Thursday. After a bandh day, they were relieved to see normal traffic movement on Thursday morning, but their exuberance turned into a nightmare soon after a rally organized by four minority organizations choked the heart of the city for more than three hours. Cars stood still on Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Road and key arterial roads for major part of the afternoon. The trade unions had eased Thursday’s bandh keeping in mind the International Mother Language Day, but the torture on commuters refused to die down.

A strong crowd, owing allegiance to the All Bengal Minority Youth Federation, Sunnat- al- Jamat, Ulema Parishad and the Madrasa Students Union had assembled at Hazi Mohammad Mahasin Square in central Kolkata in the afternoon to protest against the trial of war criminals in Bangladesh. The protestors tagged the Seikh Hasina-led Awami League government’s trial of war criminals as a “farce”.

To punish war criminals, who had allegedly killed and tortured the freedom fighters of Bangladesh during the country’s ‘Muktijudhha’ in 1971, the Hasina government had set up a special court and declared several prominent leaders of the country as war criminals. The agitating activists claimed that the Bangladesh government was trying to ban Jamat-e-Islami and its supporters.

Day by day WB sinks to new depths.

Its ironical that while Bangladeshi muslims are protesting the Jamaat and the warcrimes perperated by them, the victims of which were mostly Hindus, Kolkatans are supporting Jamaat.

.
These Jamaati's need to be sent to Pakistan - it's certain that Bangladesh doesn't want them. Pakistan should open up citizenship for these Pro Pakistani's stranded in India and Bangladesh.

.
These are a bunch of crazy lot . Just because of people Like Them the Whole muslim community have to suffer.

.
WTF, those war criminals were Pakistani sympathizers, they killed innocent men, women and children, people lie them are still present in BD which are threat to not only in BD but for India too.

What wrong is with this Mamta Bannerjee ? These f'kin extremists. Its the same situation Gujarat used to have but less visible.

Pseudo-Secular Congress and TMC will ruin our eastern part even more. Bring no-confidence motion now, kick this UPA out.

Hang these Jamatis supporters. Before this extremism spread in other part of our country.

*A high alert has been sounded in the Indian state of West Bengal and borderguards have been asked to seal the frontier with Bangladesh, officials said.*

A Bengal police official said they have received reports from central intelligence that large number of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chatra Shibir activists are trying to flee Bangladesh after being charged with violence there.

"We have been told to keep these trouble-makers out of our territory,” the official said but was not willing to be named. “Our police and border guards have been asked to remain vigilant and the orders are that moment you catch someone like that, hand him back to Bangladesh."

Intelligence reports also indicate that some hardline Islamist radical elements in West Bengal are slipping into Bangladesh to help Jamaat-e-Islami foment trouble to create pressure on the government.

Some Islamist groups have already organised demonstrations in Kolkata against the Bangladesh war crimes trials and submitted memorandum to Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata, Abida Islam, asking her to convey to the government to stop the war crimes trials.

Kolkata and its suburbs have a sizeable population of Urdu-speaking Muslims, some of whom had to leave Bangladesh after 1971 and some hardline elements in the community sympathise strongly with the Jamaat-e-Islami in Bangladesh for their role during the 1971 war.

West Bengal police say they are keeping a close watch on 'some sensitive areas' dominated by this community.

Security at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission has also been strengthened.

When asked about the alert, West Bengal police chief Naparajit Mukherji told bdnews24.com that necessary measures have to be taken "in view of the situation in Bangladesh."

"We are neighbours and so must prepare for spillovers and fallouts," he said.

These scumbags spit in the plate they eat. God save our country from the pseudo secular Congress and Trinamool shyte.

. . .
Mamata banerjee is taking bengal to a decline.

Many of her actions are pitiful.

.
What is RIGHT with this Mamata Banerjee ?
The answer in one word: NOTHING! The People of WB voted her in; now they can suffer slowly and repent even more slowly. :D
She is a crazy lady. I remember Bengalis used to feel proud of their intelligence but seeing people like her in power I seriously doubt what they were thinking ?

Tagore and Bose will be facepalming each other right now.

That underlined part is the one that did Bengalis in. Sad but true.

@Capt.Popeye

As a Bengali (I think you are) what is your solution to the political cesspool and general stagnation WB finds itself today ?

Surely it is not the Poriborton of Mamata or the Commies..of not them who else ?

are those Kolkata people become dumb ? ! ! !

Having to admit that I do not have much knowledge on the process in Kolkata, My experience in India leads me to believe it does not take much effort to instigate a protest and the conjoint media attention in this beloved nation of mine. This lack lustre effort I am ensured does not represent the public, rest assured.

.
I'm forced to bring in an analogy here -- what has happened in Kolkata is the equivalent of a few groups undertaking vocal pro-Sinhala marches in Tamil Nadu, which would have ended in bloodshed.

Muslim population in West Bengal in 1947 was 9% ...........in 1951 it was 9.9% ..........in 1991 it was 12.1 per cent ...........today its 26% :enjoy:

Assam figures are even more impressive :cheesy:

.
even other 12 joined Islamic parties do not recognize Jamat as Islamic party and oppose against them
