Bangalore- Chennai High-speed train may be scrapped

Why not just bypass the older network altogether and bring more destinations in the same track?

It costs a lot, but is easier to manage in the long run.

That would be the logical alternative now that IR has ruled out modifications on the same track.

Maybe they can build a greenfield new straight line track and convert the old one for just freight. That would raise the freight transport speed as well which is also needed..Both Bangalore and Chennai are major hubs - Bangalore for Knowledge industry(R&D, IT, Aerospace), Chennai for heavy manufacturing industry.

Man.. Chennai-Bangalore lane is one of the damn busiest in South India.. Its better to replace them now, any how it'll be done in the future. why not now.. people are aching to see the reduction of traveling time, Gov should go ahead. drop the Mysore plan as of now.
Ideally I would like GoI to give the Chinese an opportunity to build a bullet train between Bangalore and Chennai.

That way, the Chinese system and Shinkasen start at the same time and we can observe both systems in operation. Whichever is better and offers a greater RoI should be implemented across the rest of India.

That's the problem here.. read the Article.. In some places its costing Rs.200 crores per KM that's too much

This is what I don't understand. If the richest area cannot afford it, why bother with the whole high speed train project at all?

You can observe the operation in those countries. It seems to be an overkill to invite them to build the system in your own country so you can observe.

In addition, different countries use different controlling systems. High speed rail is an engineering project, not a multi-cultural community project.

The best measure will be to build a new dedicated HSR line for Chennai- Bangalore. Have 3 trains per day and still it would be full. But with little more stops. But the other lines of Chennai- Bangalore tracks must be changed slowly. Its imperative these lines are fast.

This is what I don't understand. If the richest area cannot afford it, why bother with the whole high speed train project at all?

the project is not cancelled yet.. lets wait and see, some how it has to happen in the future, cancelling now would only be going to increase the cost. and the other area like Mumbai Gujarat lane doesn't cost this much per KM, and around 80% the costs are covered by Japs with soft loans, So my guess if the chinese are willing to invest in this project we might see the program coming alive.

The willingness of investment is with India. For Chinese, it is just a business opportunity that has potential geopolicitical risks. As a Chinese, I just hope if the project is given to Chinese, they don't end up losing money.
