Bangalore: The recent deadly assault on a Chad national from Africa in Bangalore is raising concerns among others living there. Wandow Timothi was allegedly attacked by over 12 men in what many are calling a racial incident.
Taunted, chased and allegedly assaulted mercilessly by 12 people, Wandow Thimothi is now in a state of shock. The IT professional from Chad sustained multiple head injuries after being allegedly assaulted by the group when riding back from the local church. Thimothi, who is married to an Indian and has been living in the country for a decade, is now looking at his adopted country differently.
"He shouted at me, hey you Negro! Why do you say that, I asked. He said this is not your country, this is India, you are a foreigner. They then came on me like a bee, they pushed me because they were many," Timothi said.
Doctors treating Timothi say he has to undergo some more surgeries to fully recover from the blows he has received. But what hurts this father of two is that not even a single person came to help him when he was getting pounded.
"I got hurt. No one tried rescuing me, when I asked for help, people started closing their shops. You can understand those kind of feelings, the shop that you went regularly to and when you asked for help everybody was closing the shops, which means you are not wanted," he said.
The police have arrested two of the 12 people who allegedly assaulted Timothi. But he said he'll get justice only if all the 12 get arrested. With nearly 4,000 African nationals living in the city, the focus will be on the Bangalore Police to ensure that what happened to Timothi is not repeated.
