Ban Ki-moon to visit India; UNSC seat may top talks

Nope. Japan, Germany and Brazil are more likely than India to become per. member

If that was the case then China and Russia would also want Iran, Libya, Cuba, Zimbabwe etc to be per. members as well. You get the idea ????

can u explain that

.
Yes, I agree with you. US does not want an enlarged UNSC. If US agrees for a enlarged UNSC, China has no option but to remain silent and go with the majority.

What logic.

China supports Iran, North Korea, basically everyone who America doesn't want us to support.

We veto them whenever we want to, even on the Syria issue... which united the entire West (USA+Europe) and even our own oil suppliers in the Middle East (Gulf states) against us.

They were all warning us against vetoing the Syria resolution, but we did it anyway.

India on the other hand, goes so far as to have a white European as the most powerful person in their country (Sonia). We set our own path, unlike you.

let all these keyboard warriors rant like they were ranting during the nsg voting for nuclear 123 agreement or weather australia will sell uranium or not,India will be a member with VETO power within 5 years mark my words a country with 1.2 billion population is not a joke.

so why did yourl heavily reduced oil imports fom iran and why did you supported sanctions on nk after their nuke tests

China and Indian relations are complex. We both cannot be friends, but also cannot afford to be enemies. The Chinese government reaction to Agni 5, a China specific missile, is an example

Asia will look towards 2 heavy weight giants, one with muscle power and one with soft manipulative power.

http://www.firstpost.com/world/why-india-may-never-get-to-enter-the-power-club-195747.html

If the US even seems halfway keen on getting India in today, it’s only because it sees India as a long-term strategic hedge against China, a consideration born of China’s unwillingness to play by the rules of the game as set by the Western powers.

But even then, there is no certainty that the US will go out batting for India to change the UN power structure to let in India. That’s because during the past year that India has held non-permanent membership of the Security Council, it hasn’t exactly been excessively accommodating of US interests on Syria and Iran: in the cynical game of power politics, such independence of mind in foreign policy matters will not be rewarded.

But here’s the thing: even if the US sets its mind to secure admittance for India, it cannot swing it. Marshalling support for UN reforms is a diplomatic nightmare: it requires support from two-thirds of the General Assembly members, after which the proposal must be ratified by the member-countries’ respective parliaments, including those of the five permanent members of the Security Council. Given the entrenched vested interests in the system, that’s a virtual non-starter.

Please close the thread because it is not worth wasting PDF's bandwidth on something that will never happen !!!

Either India gets in or the UNSC gets disbanded just wait and watch.

Don't you think you are overestimating yourself? :D

The P5 and their allies (the great powers), comprise almost all of the geopolitical power in the world.

Heck, even just the USA (+ their allies) and Russia (+ their allies) is already more than the rest combined.

Why don't you try getting a group of countries to leave the UN and form your own group instead? Is there any country out there who is completely free of influence from any P5 member?

5 years is a bit short i believe around 15 years

Yes your path was forced upon you by CPC, unlike us. Very true.

Japan has firm opposition from China and Germany has firm opposition from France, but this is not the case with India. The only country that will oppose India's entry is Pakistan, and the same case with Brazil, Argentina could oppose Brazil. China and France are UNSC permanent members while Pakistan and Argentina are not. Hence there are better chances for India and Brazil. Given a choice between India and Brazil, the international community would choose India.

China and Russia are immaterial. If US wants, US can garner support for any country to enter UNSC. NSG deal was an clear example. I think given the circumstances, entering into NSG for India is harder than entering into UNSC

exactly rules can be bend anyday and i dont think any permanent UNSC member will openly oppose entry of Inida,China wants trade with India which has the pontential to grow many times of its current figure as India economy grows.

Hence India will be a member within 5 years......

.
Interestingly, not ONE single P5 member has said that they are willing to give up veto power for India.

They always say "permanent seat", but never promise anything about a veto.

Of course, a permanent seat without a veto is worthless, but at least you won't have to get cycled every few years.

permanent seat = veto power or no veto power for all permanent members.
Hence India will get veto power and that to within 5 years.

Nobody gives a $hit about UK, France and Russia. China has influence in a small number of country. In future, if China grows as it is today, then it could expand its influence. This is the main reason why US feels threatened by China's rise. As of now, P5 or UNSC is used by US to further its political agenda. Where were the remaining members when Iraq and Afghanistan war were started under the so called consensus of UNSC.
