Ballooning £40.5bn trade deficit with China raises fears of British dependency

UK become irrelevant after WW2. All its colonies are independent countries.....common wealth is only for playing cricket . UK could have been more powerful then USA, China or USSR/Russia if better integrated and developed its colonies centuries ago.....its imperial strategy to leave the colonies undeveloped sources of raw material for UK based industries was foolish in the long run. A dominant continental industrial power (Germany) would relegate British imperial economic strategy to the dust pin of history.

The combined block of UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand (all of whom recognise the Queen as their Head of State), is the largest country on Earth today. That's larger than even Russia.

It also has a combined nominal GDP of $6.74 trillion, the third largest in the world.

All four nations are fully developed. Politically, militarily, economically and geographically stable.

The one and only thing that's stagnated it's further growth is it's limited population, otherwise it'll be by far the most powerful federation in the world in every respect compared to the United States or China.

They couldn't defeat Germany in the 1940's (without USA and USSR). Germany in the 1940's is far weaker then the USA or China are today. The UK had its chance centuries ago....they blew it.

Anglo-saxons robed those lands from the local people. It doesn't mean that they could keep it for ever. Nothing could last for ever,neither population nor landmass. Military and Economy might is the thing that matter rather than population or lanmass.

Wonder what the situation would be if Chinese applied full sanctions on USA or UK?

Inflationary pressures observed today would be insignificant compared to the chaos a full trade restrictions by the Chinese would bring on the bullying West.

I think such a move my the Chinese could bring down the West to its knees. Any efforts to minimise the pain of shortage of goods would take years to mitigate.

Bald eagle now lost feathers, has arthritis, diminished vision, and loose bladder.

If the UK is smart, it can manage to survive another century under the protecting fire-breath of the Dragon.

Nah, only one man responsible for this demise, Winston Churchill who ironically is held in high esteem in the British narrative, but in reality was nothing but a blood thirsty vile and racist human being with equal if not more amount of blood on his hands than Hitler...

If he hadn't poked the Germans and tried to corner them into war, there wouldn't have been WWI, no Bolshevik revolution, no unjust and subjugative treaty of Versailles, no rise of Nazis and no loss of empire post WWII.

There's an even bigger trade deficit between the US and China, all in China's favour.

US is feeling the pressure of inflation due to not removing restrictions on trade with China... this is will crash US economy in the near future, by summer US economy will be in recession.
