only a stupid strategist can counter air defence with air defence ... having our own air defence has nothing to do with countering enemy's air defence ... in case of a war you must have a capability to enter enemy air space to take out strategic locations such as air bases , close air support and to take out armoured divisions ... if your air force is happy to fly in its own air space under protection of air defence units then your other branches are sitting duck for enemy's ground attacking airforce units ...

We knew this was going to happen now taking a step forward May be we wanted India to purchase S-400 system to keep India out of US influence and back into the jaws of Russia. Moving forward on this with India buying S-400 means India doctrine has shifted from offensive to defensive. Where as Pakistan is developing 5th gen and India has not even started the project. After S-400 India will be out of the domain of US fifth gen and only option will be Russia for India.
