This recent Jayalalitha bail has got me fuming about our legal system. If someone can lose a case, get convicted, appeal to a higher court and walk out free through bail - why the duck do we have lower courts anyway? It took 18 years for Jayalalitha to get convicted and it will take another decade for the supreme court verdict - and she'll be dead by then. What's the point really?

There is a time frame given (till dec or so). So it wont be that long.
These measures are to make sure no one innocent is jailed.

I understand if they were free "before" conviction - but why after? That's like saying the high court verdict is incorrect...

That is actually what it is for. If you think one court is wrong, you can go to the higher court and appeal.

Indian judiciary is a joke. 31 million cases backlog- and it is increasing every year. And to top it all Jaya has announced Rs. 3 lakh compensation to all those who committed suicide or had heart attacks due to her arrest.

trail court takes times ..............but in highrer courts , there wont be any trial or witness ...........court will only go through the proceedings done in the lower courts.
Appeal process is placed in the system to aviod any innocent getting punished ..........
there were few cases in lower courts in Uttar pradesh , where judge and lawyers were relatives ...........so many shocking decisions were made by them.............which were corrected by the Higher courts.

Only ideal way is to increase the number courts and judges ...............to clear backlog of cases.

In punjab new judges has been appointed in the last few years in this regard ..........for example .....city court of Ludhiana have now double the judges they had 5 years ago
