Because, it did not benefit indian companies.

That is the challenge. China can not stop investment completely and give walk over to india. So, current Chinese strategy is to maintain some level of investment and influence on the basis of financial transactions. I had a conversation with Chinese-Dragon regarding that and what I understood - at current level China is not ready to project power (political and otherwise) beyond financial engagement. So obvious outcome of such stagnate situation is neither China nor Bangladeshi people will reap even decent benefit from all these investments. I gave you 2 examples in previous posts how China and Bangladeshi interests were hurt because of direct indian interference.

Given surrounding hostility how long China can be passive that is one question? At the same time, even China is not willing to go beyond financial influence on its own. There are possibilities that China could leverage allies of China to influence the situation in Bangladesh. Ultimately, as hostility increases, China and Bangladeshi people both needs relation to be upgraded to strategic level and time is ticking.

I praise such investment because it makes BD more economically secure and long term stable. That is in China's interests too so it is good that China sees this and is pragmatic in its policy. Same goes for SL, Nepal and other countries in India's neighbourhood that balance their relations well.

Politically it helps the pro-Indian administration stay in power for longest time possible, and hopefully forever. They are busy dismantling the other parties.

From this I hope that a true development oriented political party in BD can form....which will be pragmatic with everyone equally and enough BD people genuinely will support without having to be oppressed by the 2 old parties in some way.

There will be no new regime in the foreseeable future. Current government is the safest for Chinese investment as this govt dont invest in rogue element and destabilize the region. Also current government will ensure good relation with India which will benefit Chinese companies in BD to exploit Indian market with zero tariff benefit.

Chinese export directly to india is different thing than "Chinese made product export from Bangladesh". "Chinese company product made in Bangladesh and export from Bangladesh is considered Bangladeshi product. Any idiot would know that.

That makes little sense given we prefer to import from China directly.

Any 3rd party shenanigans and tariffs get slapped right back on BD and your measly exports to us will suffer disproportionately.

Now my Bangladeshi brothers see how much Indian likes you. They just wants to isolate Bangladesh from rest of the world especially from Muslim world to annex it so that Bangladeshi Muslims can't get any support from them but when they saw huge investment from China they are on fire.
