BAE Systems is proceeding with design and wind-tunnel testing of a new wing for the evergreen Hawk jet trainer. The work, which is being done in theUK, was prompted by Indian interest in producing a “combat” version of the aircraft, as a follow-on to the current licensed production of the Mk132 advanced jet trainer (AJT) version by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd(HAL).

Our army must have its own aircraft for strategic strikes... This jet trainer would yield gold

No,like US,all rotary wing attack platforms should be with army,nd all fixed wing attack/strike platforms should be with air force.
But doubt is that why we are arming hawk?it will be shot down easily in enemy airspace.

Nice....:)

Combat Hawk was proposed for providing CAS to IBGs. The bone of contention between IA and IAF over CSD was about the availability of CAS. IA wanted a portion of strike aircraft reserved for CAS 24*7. IAF disputed this, keeping aircraft constantly on stand by whether they are needed or not.

Good project for HAL in collaboration with the BAE. India being the largest operator of the HAWK, could market the Combat HAWK in the international market, and somehow if the cost of the Combat HAWK cost could be brought to 15-20 Million Dollor, with the NAV Attack on its nose aka Laser Range finder, IRST, Optronics, passive sensors, it is a good option as a ground attack fighter plane. India can also use its HAWK trainers for CAS during war time.

Combat Hawk is a good idea,
And will allow IAF to make the best use of available resources in times of crysis.

Since Manohar Parikar has pretty much squashed the dreams of a 800 Fighter Jet Airforce, so we need to make best use of all available resources.

Upgraded Combat hawks can take over some of the work from retiring MiG 27, leaving the more capable Su30MKI and Mirage 2000 for the more serious combat issues
