Backlash in China over draft rule on permanent residency for foreigners

.
What happen during Mao ? What did he do ?
No 男尊女卑,no footbinding, no prohibition for girls to go to school,no adopting husbands names after married, no polygamy and concubines...

.
I found the idea of permanent residency is stupid. There should be just visitors and citizens. Visitors can work but have no social benefits. Citizens have everything entitled by the law. Visitors living in China for 20 years can apply for citizenship.

Foreign worker also pays tax. Unless they are exempted, that would be an exploitation. For China it's actually a better idea to allow permanent residency than naturalized citizenship, as the permanent residency is not really permanent.

That is NOT exploitation. Nobody forces them to work there. And citizenship is better for foreigners who have lived there for a LONG time. Being there a LONG time and the intention of being a citizen mean they have settled their lives there. Might as well embrace them wholeheartedly. Permanent residency is just a hypocrisy. They still face the potentiality of being tossed out. And, from system design standpoint of view, having two states is far simpler than having three states.

In US, the only reason why people want permanent residency is because their work visa rules are damn too harsh. Losing a job means you get 7 days to pack up and leave. And they have this stupid "immigration intention" concept, which prevents you from converting your existing visa to something else. Nobody wants that kind of pressure. If I were to design China's immigrant policy. I would relax the rules for foreigners to work or visit there. They just don't get social benefits. If they can survive there, they can stay. If they stay long enough, we welcome them to be citizens.

It's funny how Chinese and other SE. Asians have become citizens of many nations around the world but can't stand seeing "foreigners" become permanent residents.

Height of hypocrisy.

What is Chinese culture??

Spitting & publicly urinating?? Eating endangered, exotic & deadly animals?? Desecrating cultural sites at home and abroad??

Or is it wearing Western clothing all the time...casual and in business? :D

More than half of "Chinese Culture" has been destroyed by Mao, the Communists and the CCP...

LOL! If you go to Chinatowns in the US you can hear people say Laowhy (“foreigner”)

Damn right if pay tax then you expect some benefits in return. "No one forcing them to be there" is a stupid argument. Next people be saying they dont deserve political and social rights. Meaning if get abused by employer they cannot go to police.

Immigrate groups like Chinese and Indians argue their model citizens. They respect country and commit no crimes. Its debatable.

You will be hardly found any Indonesian origin people in USA and other European country. Even Indonesian is not interested in migrating to Australia which is actually located next to Indonesian islands.

Boat people who comes from Java to Australia are full of foreign nationals and the only Indonesian are the ship owner and always come back after bringing them to Australia illegally.

The point is does China intent to embrace anyone who wants to settle there? I don't think so. What I see is that China wants to welcome foreigners to work there, but doesn't want to them stay indefinitely into their retirement. And the current scheme is the best in controlling that.

Most Chinese in the US are actually republicans and anti-immigrants or anti-illegal-immigrants however you see that issue. I don't see a hypocrisy as most of them follow whatever immigration rule is in any given country, and are against any changes to expand these immigration rules.

Don't speak for everyone, I troll Republican idiots here 24/7. Radical capitalism has been tried and the result is homeless people burning garbage in the shadows of billion dollar skyscrapers.

Statistically Chinese in the US are left wing and have low belief in hard work, almost as low as the general public of whites and blacks (61% vs 58%; most other Asians are at 70%+): https://www.pewsocialtrends.org/201...ian-americans/#political-and-social-attitudes

And this is correct. the potential of Chinese Americans is limited due to discrimination. Why should we work hard when we make shit money and a tiny fraction of elite billionaires? We should just get welfare all day.

Nope....most Chinese here in the are democrats...

The hypocrisy is immigrating to other countries while restricting access to your own. Anyone can see that....you have to be seriously blind to not see that.

Exactly....always work smart, not hard.

Working hard is just another way of corporate raking in the $$$ while paying pennies to the employees (in respect to net profit).

Old thread. Proud of tolerance.

Hope not hate. Bigots around the world are the same, make up a romantic identity and blast others as threats.

Edit after posting. I like to add, a few thousand to a hundred thousand non chinese that are highly educated is not gonna destroy chinese culture. Chinese government is not gonna let everyone in. There will be standards. My point stands bigots blow issue out of proportion.
There is a updated list with a further question including witnessing or experiencing racism. The results change slightly.

Indians and Arabs are still the most racist. For a consecutive time, Chinese are not even among the top 20 racists even though some people think we are number 1. Actually prefer ground realities than surveys and my general experience is most Chinese are very tolerant of differences, more so than many countries.

It might be similar to Chinese Australians. The republican Chinese Americans I know are recent immigrants from China and their interests are more aligned with conservative parties. Most Chinese Americans with more liberal values tend to be American born, often there for several generations and not necessarily from mainland China.

Actually Itachi's argument about hypocrisy is irrelevant, most Chinese protesting the draft live in China and will never consider migrating to other countries. Don't even know why he brought up SE Asians... minus Filipinos and Viets, they aren't huge sources of migrants.

It's interesting that most of Chinese arguments aren't targeting westerners or high income foreigners but towards people from "black and green" countries. I think most Chinese on PDF (including me) feel they might be a little overzealous but then again, I live overseas so how can I condemn them?

They are right that no foreigner will ever love China like they do. They just love their country too much. Loving country and compatriots is not a crime.

Ask yourself is china free of corruption. Generals and senior politicians have been caught with huge amounts of money. Alot of people especially in high positions say they love their country but go on to steal. You only need foreign citizens to respect their country they live in. The point I am making is to treat people as individuals, instead of making sweeping statements.

Everyone knows, there are a great number of people in China, obviously we don't need more.

If only there was a new continent in the world for us Chinese to emigrate.

you missed the context. I was talking about a hypothetical policy if I WERE the one who designed it.

Chinese have a very high inclination to socialize with only with other chinese, during my stay in germany I have noticed this trend, people of all other ethnicites do socialize with people of different ethnicities but chinese people always prefer to stick to other chinese people, it seems like they are very close knit ethnicity compared to other ethnicities in the world.
