Babur Cruise Missile Discussion

1. And I dont se why a nation would have Chemical warhead on their cruise missiles.

2. And with 300 kms, there is no need to nuke tip it, we have BM's to do that job. The extended version possible SLCM's and LACM's would have a different payload altogether.

1. Then why have nuclear weapons which are much more devastating? You logic is flawed.

2. Having many different delivery platforms makes the deterance more robust and makes eventual defense systems tasks more difficult.

There is no reason to use chemical weapons. Nukes are used as strategic weapons and thatsd the reason why people are hell bent.

Well, yeah Brahmos is primarily a Ashm and I dont recall any other nation deploying a chemical warhead cruise missile. Never been used and I dont see its usefulness in the battle field or as a stand off weapon.

1. The crap Katyusha caused 11 deaths of soldiers mobilising in Northern Israel. Imagine a cruise missile armed with chemical payload hitting mobilisation centres, it would be devastating.

You have consider the expenses aswell. a cheap artillery missile against soldiers is fine, but i dont think brahmos are cheap nor meant to target soldiers.

Does any body know the diameter of the Babur cruise missile. If its less than 21 inches than it would be easily integrated in our subs as they have 21 inch /533 mm torpedo tubes. If its has a diameter of more than 21 inches than either the size of the torpedo tubes have to be increased which woud be difficult for the existing subs or the diameter of the missile be redused.

Probably this the the reason that the naval version of the babar has not been tested. Firing the missile from the ship or a missile boat would not be that difficult but that would not give the PN the second strike capability.

diameter of the babur is less than 21 in...now what will u say???

do any one have information about babur-2???

If the diameter is 20.47 inches or even less say 20 inches than i am afriad that we would require 733 mm tubes to launch it and currently we have 533 mm tubes available on the agosta 90 b.

Fo a missile to be launched from under water it has to be enclosed in a steel canister with a rocket booster which propels it to the surface from where the missile is fired. The canister will also take place, with babar occupying 20 inches there would be hardly any room for the steel canister.

I think in the first phase babar would be integrated with the surface vessels and would be integrated on the new subs later which we would procure probabally the merlin or U 212/214

what u guys need is a SSN with VLS equipped with babur for some serious fireworking powers...
but still babur is a good missile dont know when SLCM variant will come though.

Pakistan is looking into SSN, probably the new Marlin will be used as a platform. Also German and Chinese models are being considered.
As far as VLS capability, I'm sure Babur is being further developped for vertical launch.
But GoP keeps full secracy around military developments till the day of launch, we might aswell have it ready for launch as we speek. ;)

cool.... but getting merlins then looking into it for ssn developement you sre talking about a neat 2 decade thing or more.
as merlins wont come before 2012 i believe.
then a look into it another 5 years then developement. chinese SSN's pls no dont go for those.its better to make.
again we are no quicker on it but with russias help we'll do it in 5 to 7 years effectvely atleast the first few versions.
still u know if u develope a ssn and we do indigenously it dont worth the effort as the first ones wont be tht good .. atleast after 3-4 it'll show some quality.
that is why developing a ssn from scratch ur talking bout a r&d of 30 years to see the best coming out of the R&D, and that is why i want india to go to joint venture with russia for SSN.
then there is training and lot of stuffs its like having a carrier.
if u start now from scratch having a effective carrier force and operating it efefctively will take more than 2 decades, by then it'll be obsolete.
in 30 years we might as well see unmanned water vehicles :P

we have started our project atleast a decade back previously it was said to resemble the victor 3 class but with changing time things have changed. and the most important part miniature reactor and we have pretty good in it.now i seriously want russia to join in and finish it within modest 5 to 7 years for the first prototype.
then fix the issues and roll the second and third subsequently within next 5 years.
you know what? developing ssn is most disgusthing of all... though we have home made very good sonars and stuffs but we need a good design....
engine matters in a/c
design matters in ssn with reactor.slbm too but SLBM wont be tht hard.

SSN for Pakistan is nowhere near, we're indeed talking long term. It took China almost two decades to produce a credible design, we're only starting yet.
Best in our interest would be to modify the Marlin, which is believed to be a conventional and scaled down version of the Baracuda SSN, and equippe with nuclear power plant.
Even that is going to take a very long time.

India on the other hand has already spent quite some time on the project, but still 5-7 years seems rather too optimistic.
Only time will tell.

Can anybody hear update me abt the Babur,is it being inducted,if so which batalion?

YES I AGREE WITH YOU 5-7 YEARS IS WAY TOO SHORT if India makes the mistake like LCa and stars developing every single damn parts herself including the design.
remember our navy is most indigenous of all and what we need to do is buy a credible Design them produce them :)
buy Sonar from Thales or whatever.as we have designed sonar for ships not for Subs.and also we dont need a whole SUB industry like we needed in aircraft to develope future ones.
becuz SSN's are not for export except among russians-indians and maybe china-pakistan :P.

Russia is going to help us that is why i said 5 - 7 years .. and expect something to happen while putins visit on SSN.
