Baba Ramdev may launch political party

:) dont know but. Its interesting that he had launched a political party now it remains to be seen if his party gains some support or not

Going by the humongous crowds he draws at his Yoga camps, I am guessing many! But mostly uncles and aunties grappling with middle age health problems!

Oh Yeah, they are mostly middle class people.

But politics is a tricky game. If it was that easy to translate popularity into votes, film actors and cricket stars would have been ruling India! :azn:

This thread needs to be moved.

A Political party by a Yoga Guru has nothing to do with the Defense of India.
This thread is in the right place, Third Eye.
Because as a leader of a political party, he is also a potential Prime Minister
of India and by extension its Commander in Chief of all armed forces.
Judging from the hectic pace your democracy works and the rush of the candidates to the Gurus, Swamis for blessings in the elections, I guess the Guru has made the right move - removing the middle man in your electoral process.

He's still thinking about launching a party. It may or may not turn out to be true.

Ramdev joins politics, launches party to 'cleanse' system

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev launched his political party today in New Delhi, which he said will cleanse the political system of the country. Ramdev said that the candidates from his party 'Bharat Swabhimaan' will contest all 545 seats in the next Lok Sabha elections.

The yoga guru, who has launched his non-political movement 'Bharat Swambhiman' earlier, noted that he was not after any political posts and will not contest the elections.

"Through Bharat Swabhiman we are trying to increase our membership. These members on a district basis will elect a candidate for the elections. We will announce the name of the party and candidates before the elections. But I will not stand for elections personally," he said.

In the next three years, "we will name the new party", he said.

Ramdev said his party will contest all 542 Lok Sabha seats.

"Laws will change and politics will change after our entry," he said noting that the country faces many challenges.

"More than 50 per cent people in the country are illiterate. About 40 crore people sleep hungry. More than 200 districts are under the grip of Naxalism. There is a need for change and that is why we have started this Bharat Swabhiman."
"The challenges also include regionalism and terrorism. Laws should be strict to deal with issues like terrorism and rape," Ramdev said adding that he stands for bringing back the black money stashed away in tax havens.

"We will use the money brought from abroad for the development of the country. After we bring back the amount, we will be the economic superpower next to the US," he added.

I just hope he steers towards a clear path away from the right wing groups. Though he's been pretty much politically neutral uptill now, he'd have to pick sides in the future.

^^^^ He is quite different from the extremists groups although I doubt he is asking vote in the name of religion. His plank is social justice and development and inclusive growth and if he can stick to that it will be great although very difficult to win without big money.

Infact, he was one of the persons who led Yoga for a gathering of 10,000 Deoband Ulema and Students last year

One more party ...other than that what difference it is gonna make??

Ejaz, I know he's quite different from any extremist groups. But I was just voicing my fears that he may deviate from the path and align with the right wing parties. We all know politics in India is a dirty game. Once you taste power you are willing to do anything to hold on to it or get it back. Lets see if he's able to resist the temptations.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks this might be a ploy by BJP to recapture the UP and Hindi speaking belts since that is where he's the most popular. :azn: My cue? Check out his first political statement -

all i can say is that it is a poor move by baba ramdev.

i kinda liked him cos most of the time he just taught yoga and did not preach

now that he is gonna join politics, he will become preachy

he should stick to what he does best, teach yoga.
