Its not about Mullahs...its about the dearth of Leadership. Whenever their is a vacuum someone or something will step in to fill it. The reason why no one believed about what happened in East-Pakistan was because till the end the people were being told that the Indians were having their arses spanked - a little like what the Japanese high command did even on the verge of Japan's invasion. Then there was the way in which we entered the first Afghan war, the way in which we exited it and then way in which we entered the second Afghan war.

If one continues to keep people in the dark one can hardly complain if after a while they turn to you and say 'Nahhh I'm not buying this because you said something else the last time and something even different the time before the last time'.

This time around, however, the collective apathy towards the machinations of the Government circles hasn't managed to dissuade the people from truly recognizing that the TTP and filth like them are not our misguided brethren but our mortal enemies. That confusion prevailed for most of the past decade because of how the past 30 years played out. Even now you can find people who still don't buy that and would insist on the alternative narrative that its someone else who's grown a beard who's going about doing this but at least in my conversations with people the number of people bringing such assertions to the table have considerably died down. Give it another decade and the message would've been driven home resoundingly so.Even now intelligence based operations (according to DG ISPR's previous briefing I heard on the media) are at an all time high but it will take a few decades to rid our selves of the poison of fanaticism.

So far as what happened to the Christians community is concerned; people were genuinely angry at what had happened to the Christians but soon those fleeting moments of solidarity and a nascent sense of camaraderie died down because of three reasons (NONE of which amounts to a rationalization of what happened and why it happened) :

(i) the wanton vandalism displayed by the mob

(ii) the public lynching of innocent bystanders

(iii) the opportunistic elements who'd leave no opportunity missed to take digs at Pakistan and Pakistanis for what happened therein and yet would suffer from selective amnesia whenever it is highlighted that in this past decade EVERYONE has suffered terribly because their moral outrage is only calibrated to holler loudly when a minority is on the receiving end of some terrible atrocity....the deaths amongst the majority community is just a statistic I suppose.
