The hooligan mind that initiated the shoving, beating, bullying, and insulting the anti-quota demonstrators is very natural in Bangladesh that has developed and grown step by step since the 1971 war through the last few generations. I read news reports of students abusing and insulting their teachers, teachers raping their girl students, sons killing fathers and so on. In Bangladesh, it is regarded as a macho culture.

This heinous culture can also be seen in this forum where a group of macho stupids keeps on throwing muds at anyone who has a different opinion than themselves. Well, it is a part of BD culture. I am enjoying how these same macho guys are criticizing the event in BD when they themselves are a part of the same culture in this forum.

Many Bangladeshis fondly talk about religion this and religion that, but most people lack the sense of common courtesy, sincerity, ethics, righteousness, obligation, duty, responsibility, dignity, respect, truthfulness, civility and many other human qualities. The photos in the news show how inhumane and uncivil our people can be.

I agree it's hard to make sense of the conflicting news - something is wrong somewhere.

What I do feel is that the PM is against quotas or she would not say it openly - why else hurt her own supporters like that? But FFs are very influential in the party and to some extent in society too so she has to balance both sides. In truth, is it fair to instantly take away decades old rights like that?

That said I feel she has signalled her intention and will do it ultimately, but will probably have to appease FFs somehow in the process.

We are getting in to murky territory now, if there is no FF influence in AL then why is she bothering? There must be some pressure to keep the quota system. Whoever is benefitting from it will not let it go easily, which is why it will have to be managed carefully. very simple reason. Do they have any other way to survive in politics except the freedom fighter issue? They not only failed to build any political ground after 1971 but also they destroyed the ideology of the Awami League of Bhashani sohrawardi.
And Mujib regime was the darkest regime of not only Bangladesh history but perhaps also the darkest of sub continent history.
Mujib maybe was a good man but he totally lost his control over his party.
We all know the history of that dark age.
And this only chetona issue is left with that BAL is surviving in politics.
