Indians desparately ask why there are so many Muslims in Assam. They do not know that although the Muslim power in Bengal could not conquer that land, but, history says that the influx of Muslims from Bengal of different ethnicities began at the height of a failed invasion in 1205 by the Turkic King Bakhtiar Khilji of Bengal.
It continued until 1947 in a fast pace. It slowed down after that but continued until 1971. However, the main influx was until 1947. Many of the farmers from our greater Mymensingh would go there, raise crop, and would come back at the end of a crop season.
When such a nomadic farmer died, one or two of his sons would abandon his native Mymensingh to take possession of their paternal properties in Assam. These people became Assamese Muslims in the course of time. Since some Indian half educated reporters do not have any clues about the historical background, they usually come up with many fantacies that there are recent migration from Bangladesh.
Assam should have belonged to Bangladesh. This was the reason Bengal was divided in 1905, and a new Province named East Bengal-Assam was created.
