The average height of Chinese men increased by nearly 9 centimeters over 35 years between 1985 and 2019. This has become a trending topic on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo on Wednesday, with over 104,000 likes.

According to a report on the nutrition and chronic diseases of Chinese residents released by China's National Health Commission last year, the average height of Chinese residents has continued to increase in recent years.

The average height for male and female residents aged between 18 and 44 increased by 1.2 centimeters and 0.8 centimeter respectively, compared with the figures of five years earlier, while boys and girls aged between 6 and 17 increased by 1.6 centimeters and 1 centimeter respectively over the period.

A global survey published in the medical journal The Lancet in November 2020 also shows that the Chinese population is getting taller with the average height of Chinese males seeing the biggest rise between 1985 and 2019 among all the 200 countries and regions surveyed, while that of women ranked third. The report says the average height of 19-year-old Chinese males is 175.7 cm, and that of Chinese females is 163.5 cm.

Full credit to China where its due. Height increase aside, their achievements in improving living standards of so many people is remarkable. The Chinese should know that despite all the recent hate between India and China, most Indians actually have a lot of admiration for how China has surged ahead. They may not say it in public forums, but as an Indian residing in India, I can tell you this is true. Many Indians who espouse democratic values in the open just to be politically correct are closet supporters of tough and decisive government.

The thread title is "average height of Chinese men". Which means southern Chinese are included. Big part of southern Chinese have Han's genes. Who came from norhtwest of China. So I don't think they have short gene.

A well-nourished, healthy, and active child is likely to be taller as an adult than will be a child with a poor diet, infectious diseases, or inadequate health care. Socioeconomic factors such as income, education, and occupation can also influence height.

Obviously human heights and economy of China goes hand in hand.

We have a few million ethnic Indians (mostly Tamil and some Sikh) in Malaysia. Northern Indians like Sikh are quite tall, but Tamils from South India are similar to South-East Asians in height.

Indian races are very diverse. The Average Indians are shorter than average Chinese is partly due to poor nutritions of the poor families food intake.

Depends on which part of India. Indians are not homogeneous, the regions are completely different from one another, ethnically, culturally, etc. Northern Indians are a lot bigger and taller on the whole than Southern Indians are. Northern Indians are also more caucasian racially while Southerners are more dravidian.
